How can you say you’re in love if you haven’t ran through a busy street to escape a villain?

Look at these beautiful people attending a party for Elle China’s 30th birthday party. The event is somewhere up high in Shanghai, but it’s not like you can tell from the photos since they just used two fake skies as a backdrop.
Guests include Ni Ni, Li Yuchun, Yang Mi, Tang Yan, Angelababy, Song Qian, Bai Baihe, Liu Wen, Zhang Zilin, Wang Junkai, Lin Yanjun, Mao Buyi, Xu Weizhou, and the casts of MeteorGarden, The Story of Yanxi Palace, and Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace. There are others at the event but I only included people who got an official photo from Elle and a few notable looks. Which ones are your favorites?
Elle Cover Girls. I like how Li Yuchun is just like, nope, not doing that weird heart thing.
The Shang dynasty epic stars Wu Jinyan, Zhang Zhehan, Bao Jianfeng, Gillian Chung, Merxat, Xu Kai, Li Yitong, Puff Kuo, Jiang Yiyi, Hai Lu , Bai Yu, Bai Lu, Chen Shu, Liu Min, Lian Lian, Deng Sha, Zhang Jianing, He Hongshan, and Liu Zhiyang.
Given their successes, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Zhaoge airing soon.
The Story of Yanxi Palace features Consort Ling (Wu Jinyan) as the main character, and revolves around her rise to the top of the harem. Nie Yuan plays the Qianlong Emperor, and Qin Lan, Charmaine Sheh, Wang Yuanke and Zhang Jiani play the main consorts. The 70 episode drama airs tonight, and will release 2 episodes on iQiyi and Youtube every Thursday to Sunday. VIP members get an 8 episode head start.
Update Aug 6th: Thanks to the show’s popularity, iQiyi will now release two episodes every day except Monday.
First it was Gong vs. Bu Bu Jing Xin, then Gong II vs. Legend of Zhen Huan, and now this time it’s YanxiGonglue vs. Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace. Yu Zheng may have toned down on the bright colours, but his lawsuit with Qiong Yao doesn’t seem to have killed off his bad habits of plagiarism.
Behind every great woman, there is a fighter and a thinker, and a bunch of supporting characters.
If you thought arranged marriages only works miracles in modern idol dramas, think again. Based on another novel from the author of the Schemes of a Beauty 美人心计 , Beauty at the Crossfires 烽火佳人 finally brings happily-ever-after arranged marriages to a time period where they actually happen. Despite having their own lovers, Shu Chang and Sammul Chan‘s characters are forced into an unhappy arranged marriage. But as we all know in idol drama world, this means the beginning of a beautiful relationship as the two slowly cross the boundaries they’ve set for each other.
This is also selling as one of the best-looking Republican era casts in a long time. Other than leads Shu Chang, Sammul Chan, Qiao Zhenyu, and Shi Xiaoqun, even the sidekicks (Li Zhinan! Su Qing!) are good-looking.
The series currently airs three episodes a week on Shenzhen/Anhui TV. What do you think? How does it compare to its sequel, Tang Yan/Luo Jin/Sammul Chan’s “Gone with the Wind 乱世佳人”?
Apologies for the lack of normal Weibo Wednesdays in the past… month. If I could spend more time each day scrolling through Weibo for memorable posts, I definitely would, but unfortunately, that’s not what I get paid to do! But we do have a deluge of goodies from the past month, so full speed ahead!
Jing Boran showed his support for real-life couple Feng Shaofeng and Ni Ni‘s first feature film together, Love Will Tear Us Apart (我想和你好好的), calling it a must-watch. Jing Boran and Ni Ni will soon star together in Up in the Wind (等风来), a film about two unlikely friends’ search for happiness, which eventually leads them to Nepal. Up in the Wind opens in theaters on December 29th. Forever LOLing at the person trying to sneak a pic of Ni Ni with their Minion phone in this photo below.
