Here’s a drama that isn’t set in the palace but still has nice costuming. :)
TheseNothing Gold Can Stay 那年花开月正圆 stills have been sitting around on my computer so here they go. Starring Sun Li,Chen Xiao, Peter Ho, and Myolie Wu, those looking for a Qing Dynasty drama that doesn’t really involve the palace can give this a go.
Stills have been released for the upcoming historical romance drama Nothing Gold Can Stay 那年花开月正圆 starring Sun Li(Legend of Mi Yue) as the richest female merchant of the Qing Dynasty and Chen Xiao(Three Heroes and Five Gallants) as her love interest.
Seems like Sun Li isn’t afraid of being typecast just yet.
The success story about Qing Dynasty’s richest female merchant is titled Nothing Gold Can Stay 那年花开月正圆,and stars Sun Li as the main protagonist Zhou Ying. The female-centric story should be familiar territory for the actress, who was most recently a powerful Empress Dowager in Legend of Miyue.
The Magnolia Awards is held in conjunction with the Shanghai Television Festival, home to one of East Asia’s biggest television markets. Magnolia Awards is recognised as one of the most prestigious television awards alongside the Golden Eagle and Flying Apsaras, though it cannot seem to make up its mind on the number of categories (the current format began last year).
Full list of nominees, winners and red carpet pictures are below the cut.
Sun Li looks like she stepped out of a French painting in this gorgeously stunning photo shoot for L’Officiel. I never knew that a backdrop of fish could make Sun Li look like she was flying. Look under the cut for more pictures. Continue reading →
Have you ever seen anyone as stylish as Sun Li when you visited the supermarket? She’s adorable in this new shoot for Grazia, buying and trying out different breads. Look below the cut for more pictures. Continue reading →
Sun Li returns, with more clothes that beautifully blend into the background (I love the dress above the cut, though the dress with handdrawn pictures would be harder for most people to pull off in public). Look below the cut to see more pictures. Continue reading →
It gets a little hard to differentiate between the coats and the carpets in this photo shoot from Sun Li, but I don’t mind – the actress is still stunning. Look below the cut to see more pictures. Continue reading →
There are a number of problems for me in this drama, including plot holes, exaggerations that make me question realism, stereotypes about “nomadic” life that contradict what I am reading here (seems like the Yiqu were a bit more settled than depicted although surprisingly, the love affair seems to have actually happened so I can’t argue with that), and characters bent on short-term gratification that again make me question realism.
The Legend of Miyue has a couple more antique stills as it nears the end of its broadcast. Starring Sun Li, Liu Tao, Huang Xuan, Jiang Xin, Ma Su, Gao Yunxiang, and Alex Fong, the drama has picked up pace near the end but I still feel there are problems with this drama that keep it from being what it could be.
