Liu Tao, Yuan Quan lead dramas commemorating 40 years of China’s open-door policy

Two new dramas celebrating the 40th anniversary of China’s open-door policy have started filming, and there’s another handful ready to air (titles below). I’d say at least half of the shows are aiming for a Flying Apsaras award, which has a separate category for dramas relating to significant historical events.

I spy … a lot of spies in 2016

To get an idea of the extent of communist infiltration at the time, the head of the KMT’s central intelligence agency was at one time a communist mole. The character whom Ming Lou was modeled after in The Disguiser? A five-sided agent.

As idol actors try to prove their worth, many of them are looking toward espionage dramas.   Li Yifeng, Zhao Liying,  Liu Shishi, Hawick Lau, Zhou DongyuZhang RuoyunChen Xuedong,  Lu Yi, Qiao Zhenyu,  and Ady An Yixuan are just some of the latest spies in the drama world.

Espionage dramas have long been turning points for many actors, most recently Jin Dong and Wang Kai in The Disguiser.   While usually more reserved for veteran actors, the specialty is now in vogue for the young and beautiful.   Set mostly during the Sino-Japanese war, a period is known for their classy outfits and intrigue-filled politics,  espionage dramas are perfect for multi-layered characters and acting if one can handle it.

A round-up of some upcoming espionage dramas, in historical chronological order.  Which ones are you looking forward to the most? Continue reading

Song in the Clouds may actually be releasing soon

My main gripe with idol dramas and lots of Yu Zheng’s dramas is that at some point, I start singing “If I Only Had a Brain” nonstop… let’s hope that doesn’t happen again… even if I end up only clicking through this one… >.<

Song in the Clouds looks to be having a possible release on September 13th.  Starring Angelababy, Lu YiChen Xiao, Yang Rong, Du Chun,  and Su Qing, those who are still waiting for this drama will hopefully finally be able to see it air.  Stills, promotional trailers, music, and Yu Zheng’s usual barrage of promotional materials have been released.

More stills and a trailer below the cut. Continue reading

I’m going to start putting last week’s poll winners above the cut, so M.I.C.‘s  CJ Chi Yuehan gets two MM features with his electric house solo Wonderful Life. Here’s a rehearsal room version here.  Yuehan and Wang Hao are currently filming a dancing-focused movie opposite Liu Xin.

Music Monday: June 8, 2015

This week’s songs almost all come with a new album, so make sure to check out the other songs if you like them!

M.I.C.‘s  CJ Chi Yuehan released his first solo, Wonderful Life. The MV doesn’t have the highest production value, but he’s so pretty in it that I can’t complain.

Photoshoot Friday: April 17, 2014

Yang Mi seems geared up for summer in her new photoshoot for Elle, but mostly, she seems ready to exercise. Zhang Xinyu, on the other hand, doesn’t seem to want to get out of bed. Zhao Wei and Xu Lu show off crisp blue backgrounds (though for separate photo shoots), and meanwhile, Liu Yuxin dresses in pastels and red lipstick. My personal favorite from this round up, though, would have to be Lu Yi’s stroll in the rain. Look below the cut for more pictures! Continue reading
