The Story of Minglanhas released an official trailer that gives us more insight into the schemes that concubines engage in in the inner courtyard so that their daughters can secure good marriages. Sheng Minglan (Zhao Liying) has a happy ending with Gu Tingye (Feng Shaofeng), while Qi Heng (Zhu Yilong) is the classic second male lead who doesn’t get the girl. [Extended Synopsis]
Has anyone counted how many times Daylight Ent has used Nirvana in Fire instrumentals as trailer music?
Zhao Liying (Princess Agents) plays the titular lead in The Story of Minglan, an upcoming female-centric period drama produced by Daylight Entertainment, the company behind popular dramas Nirvana in Fire and Ode to Joy.
Monkey King 3: Land of Beauty 西游记之女儿国 is the third film in director Cheang Pou-soi’s The Monkey King series, and stars Aaron Kwok (Eternal Wave) as Monkey King Sun Wukong, Feng Shaofeng(The Starry Night, The Starry Sea) as his master Tang Sanzang and Zhao Liying (Eternal Wave) as ruler of the Women’s Kingdom. Henry Lau’s cover of Love of a Maiden has been chosen as the ending theme song, though all other arrangements pale in comparison to Jane Zhang and Li Ronghao’s theme song (MV).
Liu Yifei (Once Upon A Time) and Feng Shaofeng (The Starry Night, The Starry Sea 2) played Yu Ji and Xiang Yu respectively in White Vengeance, and will be starring opposite each other again in fantasy rom-com Hanson and the Beast 二代妖精.
It’s been so long since I’ve loved one of Jane Zhang’s theme songs, and this one is a work of genius.
The theme song to the eponymous film Land of Beauty 西游记女儿国 combines probably the two most beautiful love poems depicting the conflict between earthly love and eternal salvation, one told from the woman and one from the monk’s perspective, to create this beautiful duet.
This is the fastest release of a teaser I have ever seen, and it actually looks really good. Daylight Ent deserves brownie points for using on-site recording (I’m hoping it stays in the final product, since most of the line reading is excellent) and a muted colour palette.
Ice Fantasy posters this week. What are your thoughts of the episodes released so far? Starring Feng Shaofeng, Ma Tianyu, Victoria Song Qian, Xu Jiao, Zhang Meng, Wang Duo, and Madina Memet… despite thinking that there are certain advances that have been made in terms of production, I have a really hard time actually sitting through this drama and resisting the urge to click through scenes once I reach my limit… >.<
Cherry blossoms and (B)romance are a perfect match.
After all the coverage on Ice Fantasy, I do plan on checking out the first few episodes. Considering the writer’s previous works, I’ll be going in with no expectations, so all it needs to do is string together a semi-coherent story. The first two episodes will air tomorrow at 10pm (Sunday 24th in China).
