Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palacecostars Dong Jie, Xin Zhilei, Li Chun and Hu Ke feature in Bazaar’s February issue, though the drama itself is no closer to confirming an air date after getting stuck in SARPPFT’s censorship process. The show’s reputation has also taken a hit after novelist Feiwo Sicun (The Girl in Blue, Too Late To Say I Love You) accused author and screenwriter Liu Lianzi (Legend of Zhen Huan, Ruyi) of plagiarism.
Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace is a 90 episode epic that will chronicle the failed marriage of Ruyi (Zhou Xun) and the Qianlong Emperor (Wallace Huo), and has just released grand posters of its cast in formal court robes (chaofu / 朝服), which is worn strictly during state ceremonies and important festivals. The historical romance drama is tentatively scheduled for a New Year premiere.
Secret of the Three Kingdoms is the latest project from screenwriter Chang Jiang (The Advisors Alliance), and stars Ma Tianyu(The Founding of an Army) as the last emperor of Eastern Han and Han Dongjun(Wu Xin: The Monster Killer II) as Sima Yi.
The whimsical geometric depictions of fantastical beasts were a mark of the Chu. Considering themselves descendants of phoenixes rather than dragons, the Shamanistic Chu were considered “heathen” to many at the time.
Were you impressed at how gorgeous the new Tangren outfits for its upcoming Three Kingdoms drama. Yours truly happen to be currently in a Chu dynasty phase and immediately recognized them as strangely anachronistic. In fact, half of the patterns for their character posters came directly from the same tomb, the famous No. 1 Chu Tomb of Jiangling Mashan 江陵马山一号楚墓, dated about five centuries before the story’s time.
So, in honor of our beloved Tangren that seems to try each time to be slightly more historically accurate (albeit via the laziest way possible), here’s a a look at some of the patterns of Chu.
Wan Qian’s outfit (C) uses a facing Phoenix pattern from a silk robe(R). Left shows the colors of the original textile. The Chu were known for their fondness of slenderness, both in artistic style and in body shape. Rumor has it that in order to win the favor of one King of Chu, his chancellors starved so much that they couldn’t stand up by themselves.
It seems like Tangren (nicknamed ‘Poor Tang/穷唐’) has been investing more money and effort into their costumes lately…
Character posters have been released for Secret of the Three Kingdoms 三国机密之潜龙在渊, the drama adaption of Ma Boyong’s novels of the same name. Starring Ma Tianyu(Beauty Private Kitchen), Han Dongjun(Chinese Paladin 5) and Wan Qian(Glory of the Tang Dynasty), it focuses on the power struggle between Emperor Xian of the Han Dynasty and powerful warlord Cao Cao (Tse Kwan-ho).
Here are some wonderful new stills for Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace, a 90 episode historical romance drama which focuses on the deterioration of Ruyi (ZhouXun)and Hongli’s (Wallace Huo)relationship once the latter ascends the throne as the Qianlong Emperor. Really, the tagline says it all.
The stars featured below include Janine Chang as best friend Hailan, Dong Jie as Qianlong’s jealous first Empress, Tong Yao as the feisty Gao Xiyue,Xin Zhilei as Jin Yuyan, Vivian Wu as Zhenhuan, Li Chun as the scheming Wei Yanwan and Hu Ke as the naive Su Lvyun.
I think I’ve said all I can about this drama in previous posts, so bask in the pretty below!
The attention to detail on all of these is just… O_O
Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace后宫·如懿传 has released more images of the wide cast of characters. Starring Zhou Xun, Wallace Huo, Janine Chang, Li Chun, Dong Jie, Tong Yao, Chen Haoyu, Xin Zhilei, Zeng Yixuan, Wu Junmei (Vivian Wu), Chen Xiaoyun, Huang Ming, Jing Chao, Li Qin, Yuan Wenkang, Hu Ke, Zhang Jiazhu, Cao Xiwen, Yu Yang, and He Hongshan, I am assuming these are simply costumes for more minor characters but that in itself is pretty mind-blowing.
