Fan Bingbing and Li Chen announce relationship

李晨: 我们

The biggest news this week? Fan Bingbing and Li Chen announcing last Friday that they’re in a relationship. The two got close while filming The Empress of China (武媚娘传奇), though they didn’t portray a couple in that drama. This is the first time in her 19-year-long career that Fan Bingbing has publicly admitted that she was dating someone.

Their fairly low-key approach to announcing that they were dating — they simply uploaded a photo of them on Weibo with the caption “Us” — has been replicated throughout the Weibosphere in the few days since. Most of the usage has been tongue-in-cheek, such as Jiro Wang with the Incredible Hulk and a random netizen who somehow got actor Lee Pace to hold up fake marriage certificates with her.

Anyway, congratulations to Fan Bingbing and Li Chen, and I hope they don’t let all the rumors about their past relationships drag them down.

“Du Lala” Movie Sequel to Reunite Ariel Lin, Chen Bolin?

I spent way too long picking a picture of Chen Bolin for this… :P

Director-actress Xu Jinglei‘s 2010 workplace rom-com movie Go Lala Go! (杜拉拉升职记) appears to be gearing up for a sequel, tentatively titled Du Lala’s Wedding (杜拉拉追婚记). The cast has yet to be finalized, though Ariel Lin, Chen Bolin, and Vic Chou are all rumored to be attached to the project.

Du Lala’s Wedding will tell the story of 30-year-old Du Lala, now a confident and capable HR manager, and her desire to settle down with Wang Wei (the male lead from the first installment). However, the arrival of Chen Feng, a new romantic pursuer, and Qu Lao, her new boss, causes her plans to spin out of control.

The Du Lala sequel is scheduled to begin filming in May, according to the news source (which is an unverified Weibo account, so I’d take this all with a grain of salt). The film will be produced by New Classics Media, the company behind movies like Love is Not Blind (失恋33天) and Caught in the Web (搜索), as well as the upcoming drama The Imperial Doctress (女医·明妃传).

New Classics Media Chairman Cao Huayi recently confirmed that his company is indeed preparing to film a sequel to Du Lala starting May, but they’re still negotiating with potential cast members. Should Ariel and Bolin choose to take the roles, this will be their third reunion following their immensely popular 2011 idol drama In Time With You (我可能不会爱你).

The novel Du Lala’s Promotion has previously been adapted into a TV drama starring Wang Luodan, a movie starring and directed by Xu Jinglei, a stage play starring Yao Chen, and an Internet drama starring Xie Nan. (This last one was produced by New Classics Media as well.) The story tells of Du Lala’s arduous eight-year journey through career difficulties and romantic upheavals.

Chen Xuedong on Grade One reality show

陈学冬: 一口塑料普通话的我也是醉了[拜拜]一年级好看吗?

Celebrities plus cute kids is always a plus, right? Hunan TV recently began broadcasting a new reality show called Grade One (一年级), in which actor Chen Xuedong and actress Song Jia are put in charge of a new first-grade class. Watch the show on Hunan TV’s YouTube account.

Me with my mouth full of plastic Mandarin*, I’m also intoxicated. Is Grade One fun to watch?

* “Plastic Mandarin” is a way of referring to Mandarin that is heavily influenced by the Hunan dialects.

Han Han directs new movie “Continent”

704_1357045_130702Author and now director Han Han’s new movie, Continent 后会无期 (”We Won’t Meet Again”) will be hitting theaters on July 24. This is another coming-of-age story that Han Han is adapting from one of his own works, featuring Feng Shaofeng, Wang Luodan, Chen Bolin, Joe Chen, Wallace Chung, and Yuan Quan in its central cast (not bad!) They play a set of childhood friends, who have all grown up together on the east side and now set off for a somewhat reckless journey. Han Han recently released the theme song on Weibo, titled “Song of Dongji Island.” I’ve posted the video below, if you want a sneak peek at some scenes from the film, but be warned – it sounds more like the Marseillaise than a theme song for a movie! (The Dongji islands on the very easternmost border of mainland China).

杨幂: 欢迎你,糯米米

If you could figure out whose hands those were without looking at the watermark, major kudos to you! On June 1, Yang Mi and Hawick Lau welcomed a baby girl into the world. The couple has nicknamed their daughter “Little Sticky Rice” since she was born just one day before the Dragon Boat Festival, on which it is traditional to eat zongzi, which are made of sticky rice.

Welcome, sticky rice

Hawick posted on June 1 to update the world on Yang Mi’s condition and wish everyone a happy Children’s Day. (Yes, their kid was born on Children’s Day.) He later reblogged Yang Mi’s photo and added, “Always stick to Daddy and Mommy like this, all right?” Getting emotional already, eh?

吴奇隆TD: 長的像吳奇隆了不起啊?你再瞪我,拖出去……擺好

How many wax dummies of Nicky Wu do we need? Well, I’m not complaining, even though the dummy doesn’t even look that much like him… as long as they give us Bu Bu Jing Qing (步步惊情) when they said they would. Just twenty days away, everyone!

You think you’re great because you look like Nicky Wu? If you keep staring at me, I’ll have you dragged out and……… arranged properly.

  • Trailer for Tang Yan, Yang Rong,  Hawick Lau’s  The Lady & the Liar  here.
  • Zhao Liying, Hawick Lau’s  Secret of the wife to air on Hunan TV in March.
  • Following the Ancient Sword, Huanrui receives approval for another fantasy wuxia series, Kunlun 昆仑, based on the book of the same name.
  • Zhao Liying, Han Dong, and Zhou Fang’s Lovebirds series 错点鸳鸯·戏点鸳鸯 finally to air on satellite on the 20th. While part 1 is a bit all over the place, I’m a big fan of part 2’s Han Dong – Zhou Fang pairing.  After watching part 2 at least three times, I’m so excited for a HD version!

Weibo Wednesday: Merry Christmas!

For those of you who celebrate it, Merry Christmas! For those of you who don’t… have Wang Leehom in a Santa costume.

王力宏: 糜鹿放假了,留了聖誕老公公一個人坐上往濟南的飛機!

The reindeer all went on vacation, living Santa Claus to sit on a plane to Ji’nan all by himself!

Some more silliness, but also a solemn farewell, behind the cut.
