Yang Yang, Amber Kuo bear the Olympic flame

b8b73ba1gw1f35rq8wmwdj20qo10xk18

What better way to show the Olympic spirit with Yang Yang’s infectious smile?

In case you need a reminder it’s an Olympics year again, we have the ever so adorable Yang Yang and Amber Kuo as celeb torch-bearers in Athens to start the Olympic flame’s  journey around the world.

Who are you rooting at Rio 2016?   For those of you who were with us at the forum, I still remember us (mostly me) balling on the chatbox over Qiu Bo getting silver.  I think that’s definitely one gold I’m rooting for, although Chen Aisen is turning out to be a serious competitor for the gold this year. Also can someone update me on what’s going on with the gymnastics team? They seem to have done horrible at last year’s world championships.   Continue reading

“The Last Supper” of Tiny Times full of mysteries

Guys, this is how you make movie posters.

Why are Yang Mi’s knees chained? Who is Guo Biting’s knife pointing at? Why is there blood on Xie Yilin’s mouth?  Can you decipher this poster?

The poster for Tiny Times 4: Soul’s End should be put in textbooks about posters.   Titled The Last Supper, the poster, conceived by the director Guo Jingming himself,  contains clues for the viewer to guess the ending of each character in the film finale.  Fans have already started researching the original painting to try and find comparisons.   Can you figure out all the hints?

The film stars Yang Mi,  Amber Kuo, Bea Hayden, Chen Xuedong, Xie Yilin, Jiang Chao, Lee Hyunjae, Ren Youming, Shang Liao, and Vivian Dawson.

Some suspicious parts compiled below:

  • There are ten people and ten candles on the floor, and all but one of the candles are burning out. Do they symbolize the lifespan of the characters?
  • Why are Lin Xiao’s legs chained to the ground?
  • Who is Nan Xiang’s dagger pointed at and why?
  • Tang Wanru’s lips have red around them. Wine or blood?
  • Nan Xiang’s hands are on Gong Ming’s legs. What is their relationship?
  • Why is Gu Li’s holding a wig?  Is it a sign she will have and survive cancer?

“L.O.R.D.” Guo Jingming wants to shape Chinese sci-fi, fantasy, animation

587266457

Gathering up the faces of China’s biggest fandom isn’t just a commercial ploy for Guo Jingming, but also  necessary to insure the success of the launching of an industry.

China’s most ambitious animation project to date, Guo Jingming’s Legend of Ravaging Dynasties (L.O.R.D.) is not only  China’s first motion capture animation film and first Western fantasy film, it’s also going to be made using exclusively Chinese animation teams in little over a year. The plan is one of many moves he’s made as a part of his aggressive entrance into the fields of Chinese science fiction and fantasy literature, film, and animation.

Unlike the other Chinese animation projects that are produced by one company, Guo  wants to shake the entire industry up, working with a dozen Chinese companies to simultaneously develop characters and backgrounds. Guo Jingming reportedly even gave a few million RMB to the primary team Original Force, just so they would upgrade their software instead of using foreign companies.

Human models for the ambitious project include Fan Bingbing, Yang Mi, Chen Xuedong, Kris Wu Yifan, Amber Kuo, William Chan, Yan Yikuan, Aarif Lee,  Lin Yun, Wang Duo, and  TF Boys‘ Wang Yuan. You can tell Guo Jingming went straight for the biggest fandoms with this cast to insure his project succeeds.

Happy Children’s Day from Tiny Times IV

704_1642397_751269

And this is their happy face.

Tiny Times IV: Soul’s End released yet another set of posters, this time for International Children’s Day. Whose child looks like themselves the most? Amber Kuo, Yang Mi, Bea Hayden, Xie Yilin, Chen Xuedong, or Vivian Dawson? I’m kind of sad they didn’t get Chen Sicheng to do Chen Xuedong.

Tiny Times cast immortalized in amber for posters

"Love is amber, for amber is the most beautiful corpse."

Amber Kuo in Amber.  I bet she picked her name because  Guo Jingming once wrote “Love is amber, for amber is the most beautiful corpse.”

If time could stop, if love and hate could freeze, if memories could become immortalized in amber, if your faces could remain forever ….  If time could slow down its march forward and never reach the soul’s end.  Then, I’ll have you forever and never lose you.

– Guo jingming

The great thing about having a magazine editor as your director is that even your posters have awesome taglines to go with them.  That and  Tiny Times has more photoshoots than all other youth films combined in an year.  The latest set of posters for Tiny Times 4: Soul’s End 灵魂尽头 is Amber- themed (the resin with dead bodies, not Amber Kuo)  and once more features  gorgeous cast of Yang Mi, Amber Kuo,  Bea Hayden/Guo Biting, Xie Yilin, Shang Liao, Chen Xuedong, Vivian Dawon, Ren Youming, Lee Hyunjae, and Jiang Chao.

For those of you in North America, the film is likely to air in the U.S. and Canada.

Photoshoot Friday: March 27, 2015

Girls, the jewels only get bigger.

I adore Amber Kuo‘s crown in this photoshoot for Bazaar Jewelry, though I won’t be able to afford it anytime soon (she and Tiny Times  I & II costar Rhydian Vaughan were recently in One Road Surprise together, but don’t go in expecting to see too many scenes of them). Yao Chen‘s jewelry doesn’t look to be quite as expensive, but she still strikes an intirmidating image, and He Sui is just as eye-catching. Zhao Liying, though, takes the cake as being the cutest of the bunch, even decked out in grayscale. Look below the cut for more pictures! Continue reading

Amber Kuo, Rhydian Vaughan Embark on “One Road of Surprises”

They did have insanely good chemistry in Tiny Times

If you wanted to see more of Amber Kuo and Rhydian Vaughan together after the first two Tiny Times films, you’re not the only one. The two will appear together in the currently filming movie One Road of Surprises (一路惊喜), portraying a couple that’s been together for the past seven years.

One Road of Surprises will focus on six stories happening on Lunar New Year’s Eve, with each of the protagonists attempting to realize their New Year’s wishes. Although filming has been going on for almost half a year, not much information has been released so far, and the media was only recently allowed on set to watch a scene in which Rhydian climbs over from a neighboring balcony in order to rescue Amber and their cat from their burning residence.

Thus far, four of the stories have completed filming, and it is rumored that the sixth and final story will feature a mysterious husband-wife combination. Since Fan Bingbing starred in director-screenwriter Eva Jin‘s previous two movies, Sophie’s Revenge and One Night Surprise, some suspect that Bingbing will form one half of the mystery duo, or at least deliver a cameo, but the director said they’ll publicize the news in due time.

One Road of Surprises is expected to open in theaters around the Lunar New Year season next year, so check out some more cute photos of Amber and Rhydian in the meantime.
