  1. The production cost must have come down a lot because everything was downsized. There wasn’t any performance that really stood out for me (apart from the mash up/ song reversal thing at the beginning because it was so bad).

    The only one I really liked was Bei’er + family because she was incredibly cute! Except the performance itself felt out of place with the rest of the show….It seems CCTV is finally caving in and bringing popular media/ mainstream people and things to the stage.

It looks like the stage is the size of a school auditorium, and whoever is doing the visuals should be fired because it looks like they had good ideas, but then just used stock image that probably came with the computer because they ran out of time. For example, Li Yuchun’s first part was interesting, but when she was singing, it looked like the background came from windows media player 2000.

    • Yeah, the production values were rather low key compared to the galas of previous years, I thought… I guess the producers were being extra cautious, given Xi Jinping’s disapproval of ostentation and whatnot.
      And no Song Zuying for two years in a row now… hmm…
