Last week, SARFT put up the approved proposal of the mainland Hana Yori Dango.
According to the proposal, the following is the new synopsis of the drama, named “Meteor Shower.”
Chu Yuqian/Yuyun(there are two different pronounciations for the word) is a hardworking, smart highschool girl. Her biggest dream is to enter the pretigious Ailisitun (Aliceton?) University. With help from her uncle, she finally gets in. Yun Hai, Duan Mulei, Ximen Ruiqian and Ye Shuo are the four richest students of Aliceton. With their gorgeous looks, they became the idols of all the girls there. However, they’re unsatisfied with the lives that their parents forced upon them. In order to get the principle to kick them out of Ailisitun(Aliceton?), they performs a serious of pranks. While fighting for the justice of the victims of the pranks, Yuqian/Yuyun become the target of F4. Through fighting and arguing, they began to admire each other and became friends. Touched by Yuqian/Yuyun, F4 eventually becomes the top four students of the school. At the same time, they became loving, responsible males. Through the multiple struggles and hardships, Girl and F4 grew up. They learned to control their own lives, chose their own futures, and to strive for their dreams.

Everything about the New Meteor Garden is still undecided, so here are the latest “news” flying around. The announcing of the casting of F4 has been moved back again, but the female lead has been chosen. She’s a nineteen-year-old from the Beijing Film Institute. The story will be significantly changed, with different names and backgrounds of each of the characters. For example, Rui might play the piano instead of the violin. Being forever Chinese, the drama will also be less violent and more inspirational. Domyouji has pretty much been confirmed as not from the Super Boys. But of course, as CFensi should’ve pounded into you by now, you can’t always trust what you read.
Wei Chen, one of the new F4, recently returned to act in the play version of the biggest mainland drama of 2006, “Fen Dou/Struggle.” after leaving for a while to film “Le Huo Nan Hai” amongst his many various activities. He also sings the just released theme song,” Feng Ren Yuan/Lunatic’s wish,” for the play, composed by good friend and fellow Super Boy Lu Hu.
Ok, so the Taiwanese series obviously had some people speaking Chinese, but what about the Japanese and Korean series? They have a little Chinese in em as well. Thought that was interesting…
And this is why I keep emphasizing you can’t trust everything you read. Not only do people write things with biases, but also some people just plain make up stuff.
Updates because I touched upon all of these topics before. If you don’t believe me, check the tags.
Why didn't I read the script before agreeing to this movie?
1. Fan Bingbing’s Home Runwas the worst-performing movie in recent years with a big-name star. Ouch. But now that she’s a bomb at the box office she’s being compared to Vicky Zhao Wei and I think she’s actually getting a bit more sympathy than she usually does, so not a total loss. Besides…it can’t be all her fault. Chapman To was in it to. Plus the story was just whack.
I have realized, after the dozens of Top Combine/H.I.T-5 MVs that popped up out of Youtube (and since most of my site hits come from searching either of those two names), that the reason Chinese entertainment music was not more prolific was not because of the fact that they were Chinese, but rather because there were not boybands. Now that there are some, all the cpop fans have come out of the woodwork including posting Top Combine appearance on Hunan TV’s enormously popular Happy Camp, which apparently set something like a 12 year high for the show.
Update:Hunan TV Will Put On a new season of 快乐男声 aka Superboys next year.
This post has officially become a celebration post
Superboys musical picspam behind the cut. Click and be amazed at the festivity, the wonder, the number of straight(?) guys dancing together, awesome t-shirts and “the girl with braids”. Also, some more information about Hunan’s New Meteor Garden/Hana Yori Dango.
I’ll update this post and this site with more details as I get them.
I was always wondering if mainland China would film its own Hana Yori Dango. If you follow mainland Chinese television, you quickly come to find that there are the state-wide CCTV productions, which like expensive big-budget series with casts that attended drama universities, etc and then there are the provincial productions like Hunan TV who don’t get quite as much money, but don’t have the restraints CCTV does, about providing moralistic drama with meaning, etc. If China were to have a large amount of meaningless idol dramas, they would come from these local, provincial level stations. So here we are, at the possibility of Hunan remaking Meteor Garden using their “Superboys” aka “Kuai Le Nan Sheng” (the Chinese American Idol-type series for those of you who don’t get my constant references to this).
