Demographics/Interest Survey
Because I would really like to know what I can do to make this site better, and because of curiosity, I made this page. Please help by taking a few seconds to fill it out, especially all of you whom I’ve never heard from, because I don’t know what people what like me to post on without feedback. These polls will continue to be up so if the demographics of this site do change, then my posts can change to reflect that.
I’m also curious as to how people found this site, so if you’d like to leave that in the comments, please do! Also you can anonymously leave me criticism here if you would like. Tell me how much you hate my abuse of the WordPress captions function or how much I just completely disregard English grammar rules.

i found out about hit-5, top combine, seventeen. when they first came out. i googled them. your site was the first link and the only site that had any info on them. since then i have visited frequently because your site is so up-to-date and interesting. so rare to find a site like this.

@windowwatcher – Ok, I will try to see if I can put more Taiwan news. I had thought I was going to do 1/3 of the three major regions but then later on I lost interest in writing on Taiwan or HK because I saw so much of it was reproduced at Asianfanatics or elsewhere. This survey was in large part to see what people wanted to see more of because I really didn’t know. I knew people liked the mainland stuff, but I didn’t know if it was just because that portion was more vocal since I posted more for them to be vocal about. The results are encouraging, but if more people vote differently I will change it.
The hard part of posting Taiwanese stuff is that my posts are usually about concrete things…like BoBo’s CF came out, or this concert was held, or this new singer debuted. I don’t like to post hazy rumours or gossip because my time is precious and honestly I think that writing that kind of stuff is debasing to me unless it’s really, really interesting and probably true. The only time I think I posted something that was more a less a rumour was Jackie Chan working with Wang Leehom way back. That turned out to be true, but if it hadn’t it would have just been a wasted use of my time.
However, most of the concrete things are stuff people already know for Taiwanese singers, celebs probably better than I do. That’s the tricky part of finding interesting Taiwanese news to post. But I will try.
@Wendy – lol…Fensi is the word for “fan” in Chinese, which is what iFensi is referring to as well. So the site is CFensi, meaning fan of anything Chinese. I really should put that somewhere on here. And really I should thank Vanessa for offering to affiliate.

I don’t get it? I thought most Chinese from NA also originated from somewhere in Asia…I mean I guess if you’re third or fourth generation it’s pretty hard to say.

i think it would be better if you had less commentary – try to remain more unbiased. so people can see both sides of the stories.
i noticed in a few of your later posts, you sort of harshly criticized the protagonist of the article (Fan Bing Bing’s latest movie role?). i hope your blog doesn’t become one of the other blogs that tries to make cracks at the stars expense.
but good job! i would want a little more mainland news as you’ve pointed out, its much easier to get news on other Chinese-speaking regions.
this is a request! could you somehow do an editorial on Chinese celebrities that are very courteous and well mannered? ex: Yu Hao Ming is very courteous and bows to everyone. to the point where its kinda shocking — i’m only asking because the Chinese have lost the custom of bowing when greeting, so it’s nice to see some of the younger celebs retain the tradition.

Sorry! I actually really like Fan Bingbing…I even wrote a post about why I liked her.
Most people seem to prefer commentary though…and if you look around, the sites that get the most hits are those with commentary. I never try to be completely mean however…I don’t like that, and I don’t really write about gossip in general so mostly there’s nothing to be too mean about.
I don’t really follow these people that much to where I know who is polite and courteous, etc. The only one I knew who kept bowing was that cute Olympic diver, He Qiong.
I like Haoming but I don’t know all that much about him. Maybe I should get Tracy, who runs his only English language fansite to guest write about him.
It’s an interesting topic though that I wouldn’t mind writing about if I only knew of more people. Because of communism a lot of Confucian ideals were wiped out…but 50 years of communism, and even 200 or so years of debauchery and poverty can’t wipe out 2000+ years of Confucian habits. I think they’re going to make a comeback, because it seems like those traditions of Kong Zi which have lent themselves to neighboring Asian countries like Japan are again being promoted in China.

i agree about Confucianism making a comeback. I was researching and ive found pictures and online forums discussing how Confucianism has been enjoying a revival among the youth in China.

I also noticed that Yu Haoming’s very polite.
Chinese divers in general are very polite, whether due to requirement or personal habit. They’re the only team that bows after every dive.

Found you by searching for BOBO OPPO CF. gotta say, the CF kind of sucks. Have Hunan TV on satellite, & saw it, then thought i saw BOBO in it, but couldn’t be sure, the longest time the camera lasts on them is like 2 secs. so my curiosity got the better of me, so i decided to google it. (°º?) Was I right in thinking that BOBO was in the OPPO CF?

Been following/got into the AZN entertainment industry for the past 2 years. And FINALLY! a blog about Mainland China, instead of all about koreans, or taiwan, or japan/manga. (well there’s probably others, but for me, you’re the 1st one I’ve ran into) My chinese isn’t that great and so I’m kind of out of the loop on some of what Chinese entertainment is about. Can’t even research on the net. Wikipedia shows no real love for us Mainlander, mostly more in depth articles on the other AZNs. Baidu is a great resource, too bad I can’t read Chinese. So I would like to say thank you for doing this blog. Cool, my curiosity on some AZNs will finally be satisfied. Get more background info. then just what the TV tells me.
Also you’re funny, good writing, you’re bias gives you personality. at least you’re honest about it. ^^
But it’s not snarky and mean, like some other blogs. keep up the good work.

Kind of random, but I was googling Bryant Chang a few weeks ago…which somehow led me here. But I’m glad it did! This is one of the few blogs that I will follow regularly.

I just found your link through lovehkfilm.com today and am glad there’s finally a blog about mainland entertainment. You’re really paving the way and helping spark interest for a burgeoning industry that is already beginning to make its own distinct mark on pan-asian entertainment via films. Dramas will definitely be next.

i agree that i dont know some of the people that you mentioned, because of course i just dont. BUT im really interested in learning about new artists/actors/models, etc. i really like how im learning about mainland china’s celebrities because before, i would never care about them. honestly. so, please post what you can. even if i dont know who you’re talking about, i’ll read it and do some google searching. that’s howh we learn, right?

I wanted to find out more about the boy band called Hit-5 because I rarely see news about/or just am naive when it comes to girl/boy groups in Mainland China. There are so many Korean groups/entertainment agencies and it’s really easy to find news about them but not so much China. lol. Anyway, I googled “Hit-5 album” and this site was one of the links.

While I don’t particularly find straight news boring, commentaries always bring added insight, and I like how every blogger will have their own style, it makes sites like yours all the more interesting to read.
I haven’t paid attention to Mainland Chinese entertainment much, except the occasional movie. That, added to the general, and unfortunate stigma that Mainland works are of a lower calibre than its East Asian counterparts, I had no idea that it was that exciting till I perused your site. Thanks for your hard work!
It’s because of sites like yours that hopefully the international community will come to a realization that Mainland China has a viable place in popular culture.

I found this blog through google… I don’t remember what I was searching though–it was a while ago, around the time that TC just debuted.
I was really excited when I found out about this site because I was specifically searching for Mainland Chinese artists that I might like at the time. I’ve always been frustrated with the Mainland Chinese entertainment industry because it hasn’t been up to par with the Japanese and Korean industries, so I’ve been mainly listening to Jpop/rock and Kpop. Since I am Chinese and know… an adequate amount of Chinese, it’s refreshing to be able to hear songs that I like in Chinese instead of having to translate from Japanese and Korean. I love that such a well-done site with a focus on Mainland Chinese entertainment exists. It seems to be one of a kind.

Hi, I just found your site today and your YouTube page because I was doing internet research about Chengdu.haha I saw the article about the Chengdu movie and emailed it to my friend there.
I am sure that I am much older than your normal demographic (54) and I am American. But, I have a teenage daughter adopted from China and I like to tell her about her wonderul homeland until it annoys her! haha
Also, I plan to move to China in a year or two to teach English and live there. I have made good friends over the internet and help them with their English.
Anyway, I really enjoy your information and videos and comments. I love music. It is my first love and first study in college. But now, all I do is listen.
I really love Chinese bands that combine traditional instruments and/or ethnic Chinese music with rock or hip hop (although I am not a big fan of American hip hop or rap). For example, Jay Cho did this although he is probably out of favor now.
Can you please give me some band recommendations for mainland Chinese groups, especially rock bands and those who combine both electric and traditional music and instruments? I know there used to be a group called Tang Dynasty who were heavy metal who did this but I am sure there are new groups now.
Sorry for the long email, but music is something that I love and I would like to listen to more modern as well as traditional Chinese music. Especially from the mainland, since that is where I plan to live and work in the future. I also want to keep giving my CBA daughter more insight into modern China.

Honestly… I love cfensi because there is so little coverage of Taiwan and HK. It seems a little pointless to repeat the information when the rest of the internet is filled with stuff from these regions. So much so that I always see people mistaking Mainland actors, dramas, singers, whatever… for Taiwan because they just don’t think it could come from China and the stereotypes of what people think Mainland entertainment is like is pretty bad. It makes me both incredibly sad and frustrated.
All the English Chinese entertainment forums and sites have sections for the Mainland, but the content and activity is just pathetic. News and information about the mainland is just so much harder to get. So I love the fact that cfensi focuses on it. So please, more Mainland! Link to the TW and HK news sites instead, maybe?

I googled Fan Bing Bing because I was subbing The Last Night of Madame Chin in viikii.net and needed pictures for the drama homepage. I think that was about half a year ago. I saw your wonderful article on the drama and fell in love with your high quality pictures and was very grateful that you gave me permission to use your photos. Unfortunately viikii.net didn’t work out that well for Chinese dramas or movies as it tend to have broken links…as this is what happened to our teams subbing work for Madame Chin. Fortunately for our fans, Pomi & I have started our own drama site in March 2010 to continue with our unfinished subbing work, mainly focusing on Chinese dramas. I hope it is ok with you that we continue to use your pictures for Madame Chin in our blog and later in our website. Please visit us when you have time.

As I posted in your “about section” already, I randomly found this via google.
I do have one suggestion though that I really hope you will consider. As I am learning about new artist here, I tend to use wiki to get more info on them, but it’s harder to find Chinese artist on Wiki.
So perhaps, you could create a section that gives BIO or background info on these artist.
Such as bobo, iMe, etc. Looking at your youtube, I found interest in the MIC男团 group but cannot find information about them anywhere. I hope you consider this. Thanks
