Zhang Ziyi for Harper’s Bazaar

September 16, 2009

I’m guessing most people have seen these pictures already, but I’m going to post them here too because I want a compendium of  photoshoots on this site, and these are so pretty and very Chinese. I won’t be putting up thumbnails much anymore,  because   they take longer to post, and few click anyway, which defies the entire aesthetic point. That also means a higher photoshoot to other content ratio on this site since I can’t lump photoshoots together if they aren’t in thumbnail form. Hopefully that doesn’t overwhelm anyone.

This shoot is part Harper’s Bazaar’s Chinese-themed photoshoots for China’s 60th anniversary. Can’t wait to see what they have in the future. ^^ I think it’s odd that it featured ZZY only after Sophie’s Revenge was out of theaters though, and already available for legal viewing on websites like Sohu. Five Channels to Broadcast in HD in Two Weeks

September 15, 2009

I don’t have much time right now so I thought I’d put up some straightforward industry news that probably won’t make me feel compelled to reply to comments etc. I like all these channels (not sure about CCTV-1) and if I had to pick five I wanted in HD these would be it. The one I can think of that I would like off the top of my head added to the list, is CCTV-5. I want to see hot atheletes in HD ^^.

Super Girls photobook

September 14, 2009

LXJ photo 1c

The top 10 Super Girls are all releasing their own mini(?)-photobooks. Looking through these pictures, which are far not too artistic but captures the girls in their natural prettieness, it is not hard to realize how bad Elle must be to make the girls look anything less than gorgeous.

The first batch of pictures released are  that of Li Xiaoyun, Liu Xijun, Yu Kewei, Zeng Yike, Pan Hongyue and Li Yuanxi.

Tan Weiwei in Venice

September 12, 2009

.

While the shortened version of “Chengdu, I love you” was the closing film for the Venice Film Festival, the only one of its actors with claim to Chengdu residency, Tan Weiwei, took the time to take this gorgeous photoshoot in Venice courtesy of Sohu. I love the vibrancy of the colors and the gorgeous mask.
Tan Weiwei’ recently released one of those “hot” albums that features a compilation of already popular songs that is generally done by little-known singers like Yu Kewei before Super Girls, which makes me worried about Tan Weiwei’s music career. But before that, she had that gorgeously underpromoted single – I forgot to say. More pictures under the cut.

1/3 of “Chengdu, I Love You” Becomes its Own Movie

September 11, 2009

AE69B2FA02291D5B1A84E0EE46040C6B

In my growing apathy for this movie, I failed to miss this bizarre news which brought my interest back up a notch, and along with it many mixed feelings. As you may have read in early reports, this movie was supposed to show past, present, and future Chengdu, Sichuan, perhaps my favorite city. Well, it seems that the present-day segment, directed by the Korean director Heo Jin-ho,  has become so commercially enticing that it is being developed into its own movie called Season of Good Rain, leaving the past and future segments in its dust. I feel sorry for the Venice film festival thinking that it invited a full movie to close its festival, but only ending upwith 2/3. I feel sorry for the other two directors as well.  But at the same time, I’m almost rejoicing.

The 3rd Annual Modern Sky Festival Coming Soon

September 11, 2009

It’s Chaoyang park time again you guys!!!!! The arrival is ushered in by this year’s poster (they’re always so cool...check out last year’s) which is similar to a a Magritte painting. China’s biggest indie label Modern Sky must be doing really, really well. Last year’s festival didn’t have any foreign acts, but this year is filled with them, and that doesn’t come cheap, not to mention that Modern Sky had already probably spent money organizing the Strawberry Festival this past summer. I will try to post on this once it happens.

For the official website (which also looks cool) click here.

And sources tell me Bearbiscuit (an awesome band from Xinjiang) was rumored to possibly be playing there. They really should be there.  The song below of theirs is called Silence. /pimping.

“The Message” Theme Song by Chen Chusheng Released

September 9, 2009

Long time no see Chen Chusheng. When we last left him, he had disappeared, unhappy with eeMedia.  Now he’s turned up again  in the MV for the Message‘s Theme Song, looking gaunt and singing a song that doesn’t seem to quite fit his voice. Although I suppose it’s a bit more suited to him than the Shampoo commercials (yes, seriously) he had to do with eeMedia.

His pathos certainly reflects the state of the characters in the movie, whom all seem to be tortured, psychologically or physically. This will be a tragedy and Chen Chusheng the Greek chorus.

We just hope that this doesn’t carrying over into real life, where Hua Yi has announced they will sign him, and with a six year contract at the minimum. While I’m happy for Chen Chusheng, and would love to hear more of his compositions, this announcement doesn’t bode well for Hua Yi-eeMedia relations.

September 8, 2009

Men’s Uno’s second couple photoshoot. These two could be considered two of the hottest rising actors in China, and with two of the most perfect set of looks. Kitty Zhang Yuqi, discovered by Stephen Chow for CJ7 while Zhang Junning, was discovered by drama scriptwiter/director Hai Yan. Both men have midas touches when it comes to make an actress and actor respectively, famous. Together the two are paired in the desert heat to interpret a passionate love, and continue that interpretation in the Versace hotel in Australia.

Men’s Uno’s Classic Couple: Liu Ye and Wang Luodan

September 8, 2009

Img1387297_f

Men’s Uno is bringing out all the stops today to provide us with great photoshoots. Liu Ye and Wang Luodan, both having made a solid name for themselves with their acting are paired to show an interpretation of love in a French town. With the paved roads, quaint gardens, and old churches, and the sunlight reflecting off them, it shows a quaint, almost stoic love of many years ago.
