Open Thread #3 – Let’s “Watch Meteor Shower Together”

They had time to climb the great wall but not dub themselves

This is going to be another open post, for discussion about the drama as it airs this Saturaday at 10:00pm Beijing Time on Hunan TV.

For those of us without Hunan TV (or friends who do that we can convince to “watch meteor shower together” with) but want to watch the drama live, the only way is through legal and not-so-legal online streaming sites. Here’s a compilation of ways to watch Meteor Shower online.

But before that, cfensi wants to pimp Brickwall, who is doing Chinese Paladin 3 recaps. Cfensi: She also recently finished up some great Black and White recaps as well.

1. TVU
This is the fastest online streaming of Hunan TV I know of. Cfensi and I watched the New Year’s show on here. You can download the software for free here, and then simply search for Hunan TV in the bar.

2. Mango TV
Mango TV is fairly fast and one of the more HQ video-streaming softwares. In addition to live streaming, it also has videos of older episodes of Hunan shows. This also requires a software download here.

3. PP Stream
The most popular Chinese online viewing program. I find it a bit too slow for me during peak Chinese times, but this also has the biggest selection of on-demand dramas and movies. Download it here.

4. tvants
Worst video quality, but has the greatest variety of live TV channels. I watched the Olympics on this. You can download it here, but I would advise caution on this one since I can’t find the site I downloaded from and thus doesn’t know the safety of this link.

kitkatz23 would also like to add UUSee to that list of apps for watching live tv.

I’ve been using this program for the past year and the stream is always excellent. The quality is very good also, but the down side is that this app is in chinese.

    since I have to go, can whoever reads this put this up on af/soompi? Thanks…and I really hope the best for Meteor Shower. If it’s as dramatic as Super Girls, it can’t be bad.

  2. yelei Says:

    @idarklight: thankyou so much! I will help you post this at soompi :) good night!

  3. yelei Says:

    This has nothing to with Chinese entertainment: Remember the movie Dragonball Z? It was a failure. Anyways the Nickelodeon cartoon “Avatar” will be made into a movie, BUT almost all casts will be Caucasian except for one Indian guy who’s from UK. This is why I hate Hollywood sometimes.

  4. kale Says:

    I watched the Meteor Shower preview. Don’t you think it looks similar to the other versions? Like how Zhen Shuang’s friend fall for Zixiao. And how Zhen Shuang’s likes Haoming’s character. So, is there any difference? Maybe just the detail right?

  5. kitkatz23 Says:

    Hey, thanks! I didn’t know that Meteor Shower was starting so soon. I watched a little of the preview and it seems quite good.

    I would like to add UUSee to that list of apps for watching live tv. I’ve been using this program for the past year and the stream is always excellent. The quality is very good also, but the down side is that this app is in chinese. I’ve used all of the above mentioned except for Mango TV. Tvants is by far the worst app, and ppstream is ok half the time. I haven’t used TVU in years…so i don’t know how good the quality is these days.

  6. julie Says:

    im watching hunan right now!
    cast is going to be on happy camp next week, it looks so fun CANT WAIT!
    15 more minutes!

  7. idarklight Says:

    @kitkat
    thanks for reminding me. I added it on there.

    Hunantv interview of them.
    http://tieba.baidu.com/%CE%BA%B3%BF/shipin/play/7f6c6ccc95fec8e0fa3f29ce/

    …is it just me or does Zheng Shuang and Wei Chen’s clothes always match more than Zheng Shuang and Zhang Han’s? Last time, they both wore bright blue shirts with white. This time, they’re both wearing light blue.

    they also sing “let me sing a song for you” live, for the first time…except like the real version, you can hear Wei Chen + 3 backup singers.

  8. idarklight Says:

    did it just start a second ago? They’re showing the opening right now.

    but it’s only 9:50…

  9. lindaa Says:

    soo i downloaded the mango tv software and i tried running it but it won’t run TT TT help? xD

  10. idarklight Says:

    It begun…

    @Lindaa
    that’s why TVU’s the best.

    It won’t open or won’t show?

  11. lindaa Says:

    @idarklight

    it won’t open. a window pops up that says “the file name, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect” = =;; ahhh thanks. i’ll try tvu then ^^

  12. idarklight Says:

    urgh…Metersbonwe made that uniform. I think I really dislike that company now.

    so far, it’s exactly the same as the leaked script

  13. idarklight Says:

    Zhang Han’s car-choosing monologue is so commercial-like.

    wtf with the gross English?

    This car is so “custom made.” Too “perfect.”….

  14. cfensi Says:

    Ok, so I just watched Good Morning America and I was infuriated.

    They had a “One Year After the Olympics”. They made it seems as if the Olympic stadiums were in disuse, never mind all the concerts there, never mind that most Olympic venues from all over the world never really get used after, and that China’s been doing a great job keeping them in top condition.

    Then, they were interviewing a Chinese college student, and her quotes were ridiculously taken out of context.

    They first said “She was dismayed at how the government handled it; it was an eye-opener for her” and they show a clip of her saying “It changed me.” And then they say, “Yes, it changed her, but not the way the government hoped”.

    I think my jaw dropped at how ludicrously biased it was. It can’t even be called biased…they basically twisted her words, and told some lies.

    This is why Chinese Americans think poorly of their culture.This is the media that we are given. We are fed this crap from youth.

  15. Julie Says:

    I’m so pissed I only watched the first 10 min because my mom kicked me off
    Anyone wanna tell me wat happened?

  16. yelei Says:

    My internet connection was disconnected and didn’t watch the first episode :( can anyone tell me what happen?

  17. hoistdacolors Says:

    too many cheesy music tracks.

    a lot of things are happening in one episode. I thought everything would space out through the drama. But it is quiet exciting. Pretty much the whole confrontation between H3 and Yunhai is over by next episode.

  18. idarklight Says:

    My friend called me to go out for breakfast.

    lol at no one but hoistdacolor missing it. XD

  19. cfensi Says:

    I couldn’t watch it because I can’t get TVU on my crap computer anymore, and othe reasons, but yeah…

    So was it good? Different from HYD?

    When’s this thing going to get uploaded?

  20. mrpeng Says:

    @cfensi

    im def. not surprised. i dont want to get political, but its rediculous how distorted and biased western media is. ever since the start of the olympics, i just doubt everything western media has to say about other countries, and other issues. western media is full of lies. i just feel, they use the media to encourage hate among different people and nations.

  21. idarklight Says:

    Ep1 on tudou:
    http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=624521080

  22. cfensi Says:

    @mrpeng

    I’m not sure about other countries, but the media in the US was much worse before the Olymipcs…and it started getting slowly better. Which is why I was so surprised.

    That “special” was one of the most blatantly biased pieces I had seen in a long time. It went back to something like 2002 levels of “McCarthy” sentiment.

    @idarklight

    Sort of watching right now…I actually like the instrumental pieces.

    I wish they didn’t get Ren Silu or her dubber to do the introductions, bc her voice is annoying.

    It’s cute that at tudou the ads on either side feature Xie Na and Zhang Jie.

  23. shoups Says:

    thanks so much for the TV streaming sites.
    Love them.

  24. idarklight Says:

    I really like the dialogue for this drama so far. It’s humorous and clever. Compared to the 3 versions of HYD, this is definitely a lot funnier.

  25. cfensi Says:

    Right, arrogant scriptwriters give me hope. So far the three things I was banking on seem good…Zhang Han’s acting, the script, and the music.

    But why does Makino know martial arts? But Zheng Shuang is really good when she’s not too happy. A lot better in acting than I expected.

    So far the acting thankfully is good. To be honest, I was worried since Meteor Shower actually has the least experienced cast apart from Meteor Garden with all newbies. Even BOF had three actors. Meteor Shower only has one person that’s really an actor, and that’s Zhang Han. Zheng Shuang is from Beijing Film Academy but she’s only been there a year. The rest are singers and one model.

  26. idarklight Says:

    Random thoughts:

    Zheng Shuang’s a lot prettier with her hair down.

    Lu Hu’s the most adorable thing ever.

    Zhang Han’s dubber has a really nice voice.

    Zheng Shuang should stop screaming.

    They shouldn’t have guys swimming unless they have muscles.

    Zhang Han’s dubber’s English sucks…

    This version also has the prettiest bad girls.

    Zhang Han’s screen presence wins over Zhu Zixiao’s reallife coolness.

  27. cfensi Says:

    @idarklight

    Yeah…although Yu Haoming was pretty hot in the swimming episode of Kuai Le 2008. That was so funny.

    Happy 40th Birthday Faye Wong! Bonus points to whoever spots the HYD connection in the vid.

  28. yelei Says:

    Personally I like the idea that Zheng Shuang knows martial arts. Go Hye Sun appeared annoying and weak to me.

  29. Nepheliad Says:

    Well, there’s been a lot more praise than I thought there’d be for MS. I’m kinda tired of HYD adaptations, though, so I’ll just watch when I have more time.

    When it comes to media coverage, trust me – that isn’t the worst. Every country does it, unfortunately, especially when another is seen as competition in any way (or even when it’s not *cough*France*cough*). Twisting words from an interviewee’s mouth is, sadly, fairly commonplace, too, and far more so when said interviewee speaks a language that needs translation.

    That said, while I was sickened by their gross exaggeration, I don’t think it was wholly unfounded. The Chinese government had trumpeted the venues as the future of Chinese sports – the crowning jewels of Chinese athletics and business. But post-Olympics, they’ve had less success than Sydney, or even Athens, at hosting sporting events, and if your sports stadium is doing little but hosting concerts… well, something IS kinda wonky there. There are no home teams there, for which I blame the designers; the maintenance costs, I’ve heard, are astronomical, so nobody wants to pick that up. Meanwhile, both the ANZ Stadium and the Olympic Stadium have had multiple teams call it home base, as well as host a variety of different sporting events in addition to concerts. Even then, they’ve still had trouble – it’s just that Beijing has even more trouble, exacerbated by the fact that it doesn’t didn’t have the same kind of preexisting, strong sports teams and such to draw on.

    Few Olympic stadiums are truly all that viable outside of the Olympics, but what with everyone having hyped it up so much only to see a lack of major athletic events in the wake of the original event… I can see why there’s some cynicism about the whole business; I even remember encountering it in Beijing just before the Olympics. Mind, the GMA special was nauseatingly biased; thankfully, most other sources I’ve seen aren’t nearly that bad.

  30. idarklight Says:

    @cfensi
    are you talking about the singer?

    ——–
    wow, I really like it. The script is hilarious. Wang Hailin is awesome, despite his arrogance.
    The only part I wanted to skip over was the car racing scene.

    The scenery, as expected, was gorgeous. The classroom and dorms were a bit bare, but bearable.

    Yu Haoming’s hair is still really annoying, but the other three guys are pretty good. Zhang Han, who has so far been quite dull on interviews, did a pretty good job of making his character come to life.

  31. mrpeng Says:

    no comment on zhang han’s english.

    and why were they dog paddling, instead of swimming freestyle. really awkward to do frog style after diving in the swimming lanes.

    over all MS seems like good drama.

  32. cfensi Says:

    @Nepheliad

    China never guaranteed that it would be used for sports, and even now it is far to early to say that it will never be used for their teams. It reaps in so much money from daily tourist visitor right now, that they are probably waiting until that dies down to give it to a sports team.

    Even yahoo sports, who were biased enough to provide a “Real Medal Count”, aka one where America tops, has said Athens was a terrible waste of Olympics venue money, and that they are all in decay.
    http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/news?slug=ro-beijinglegacy082408&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

    It was my fault for turning this thread into one about media biases, because to be honest, I don’t have the energy to talk about politics. Talking politics is talking yourself in circles. And I’ve had enough of that. But I was sickened by Good Morning America… the show that you watch as you poor a cup of coffee and listen to before you head out the door.

    The reason I said 2002 was because I remember watching a short special by Tom Brokaw then, where they went to Chinese houses, and everyone said they were happy and their life was getting better and better, and then when the program started to wrap up it talked about “Yes, these people are living under the spector of communism…they have the shadow of totalitarianism over their lives.”

    I was somewhat young at the time, and it left a very negative impression on me. So far, the media has been getting better, but to see something as wrong as what I saw all those years ago, was disturbing.

    I’m not saying this is strictly American. Otherwise, Jane McCartney wouldn’t be such a biatch when she writes for Times UK.

    and about MS….you should watch it…it really does have a great script.

  33. idarklight Says:

    mango TV has both episodes up, with higher quality but slower speed than tudou.

  34. cfensi Says:

    So is this two episodes per day?

  35. lulupony Says:

    @ MrPeng,

    I know! I was laughing so hard at the swimming scene, reminds me of how my dad swims (dog paddling~hahaha)

    I thought it was cute how they were playing in the water though. These boys definitely have more chemistry than the F4 in BOF. They seem like genuinely good friends.

  36. yelei Says:

    is there a place where i can download with high quality?

  37. cfensi Says:

    Random question: Does anyone know if Kimi Qiao Renliang really trained in the high jump under Liu Xiang’s coach?

    I just read that today in his baike…it seems far-fetched, yet still plausible.

  38. mrpeng Says:

    i dont know. but why would he train for high jump unless he wants to pursue a career in sports? and represent china in olympics?.. lol and i think hes too old to start now. i dont its plausible. unless hes ‘wants to learn high jump for fun.

  39. cfensi Says:

    I don’t think he’s training anymore…(if this is a true fact…if not, then omit the anymore)

    But if he did, unF. High jump. <3

  40. megan Says:

    Ugh, I didn’t get to watch it because it’s midnight over here…
    What time does Happy Camp air (Beijing time)?

  41. chinkirox Says:

    or you could just watch it online
    http://v.ku6.com/show/5QULGJJQ2b10zfsl.html

  42. idarklight Says:

    @megan
    I think 8 or 8:30?

    @chinkirox
    but watching momentous things live is much more exciting…I think I would die if I had to watch the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics 12 hours later on NBC… (I watched it on TVAnts)

  43. Nepheliad Says:

    Hmm, I have to say, my interest in MS has been unexpectedly piqued. I greatly appreciate witty dialogue, so if it boasts that like a lot of people mentioned, I’ll give it a go after my trip, HYD-tiredness be darned. To be honest, I’m not all that fond of the HYD story, but I’ve heard that this one is a pretty loose adaptation…?

    @ Cfensi – China never guaranteed it, but considering that it is a sports stadium… And certainly, they were trumpeting the place as their magnum opus, so I think expectations were somewhat higher than they might have otherwise been. Athens was a notorious waste of money – the thing is, AFAIK, that Beijing Olympic Stadium isn’t much better, at least as a sports venue. I know that it is a prime tourist location, but I didn’t think they made money through tickets? All I can remember is that the soccer home team couldn’t afford to maintain the place, so it gave up on making it home base.

    Media bias isn’t politics, but it’s equally, if not more frustrating, just ’cause it reaches the mindset of so many more people. That’s what really pissed me off about the GMA report. GMA has a pretty big viewer base, and all of them have now been misinformed… And yes, it is definitely irritating how they absolutely MUST tint most every news report about China negatively, even when the story is positive. China has plenty of problems, but really? Unfortunately, negative, and often snarky commentary results in greater readership, so it sells better.

  44. chinkirox Says:

    I really like this version, the guys didn’t start out being the best of friends &they had a “reason” other then plain bullying. even tho at the begin i was kinda confused cause she keep fighting with Shangguan rather then Yuhai but it worked out in the end. It’s a lot funnier then i expected too. cant wait the for the next eps!

  45. cfensi Says:

    @Nepheliad

    Are you tired of HYD bc you watched it a lot or because you just didn’t like the story?

    I read that the Bird’s Nest was bringing in 400 million per year, due to tourist revenues. I’ll wait until it dies down a bit to see where it goes. If they don’t do anything with it after that toursim dies down then I be disappointed.

  46. idarklight Says:

    I love Yuxun’s uncle in this…

    *Her uncle sees Yuxun*
    his monologue:
    Meeting you, is like someone giving me 100 bucks.
    Meeting you, is like when someone else pays for my meal.
    Meeting you, is like when someone’s investing in me.
    You are my 100 bucks.

  47. cfensi Says:

    Ok…I’m caving…

    any links to episode 3 and 4?

  48. heofs Says:

    i was pretty much watching hunan all night looking for this, but it never played….ive read somewhere that it was going to play @ 10:00, beijing time? i liive in the US, so does that mean i should have watched it at 11:00 on saturday morning….? :(

  49. g Says:

    So I was all excited to try out MangoTV because I’ve been looking for something like it for a loooong time. I downloaded and installed it, seemingly without any problems but when I click on a video and try to play it, the little status/display box beside the volume controls says “已断开” or “已停止”. Any ideas what the problem may be?

  50. idarklight Says:

    @heofs
    Eastern time: 8:00am
    Central: 9:00am
    Mountain: 10:00am
    Pacific: 11:00am
    and yes, Saturaday morning (or other mornings that you want to catch it on)

    the first two episodes are already on cfanboys2′s youtube channel, if you want to watch it.

    @g
    how fast is your internet? Did you press the play button on the right? You have to click the video, and then click on the play button in the screen that appears.
    Other than that, I have no idea. It works for me.

  51. g Says:

    @idarklight — Thanks for trying to help. My internet is very fast, I have no problems streaming anything else. I did click the video but, aside from the play button on the app, a play button doesn’t appear on the screen…. I guess I’ll try again. Anymore ideas?

  52. idarklight Says:

    ep3 on tudou:
    http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/amqho54U1L4/

  53. cfensi Says:

    @idarklight *hug*

    Ugh…I really don’t have time to be addicted to this.

    And then Ugly Wudi 3 says it’s airing next month…I hope they won’t be stingy with the trailers after they deluged us with this one’s.

  54. cfensi Says:

    Hey did you want to stick this post to the top?

    Thoughts:

    Oh hell, Xiao Yu really is her friend? Ugh…I was hoping there was no equivalent of that character.

    She’s really different in acting from her Rich Man Poor Love character…her facial expressions, everything.

    Wow, episode 3 is HYD to the max.

    Xiamen University is so so so pretty. I can’t believe I originally wanted it in a high school in Zhu Hai. Although that high school was pretty too.

  55. cfensi Says:

    Lol, I just got to the shampoo product placement.

    Wow, the teachers care more at this university.

    And Metersbowne again…I can stand the MG cars that really don’t fit rich people, and the variety of laptops that don’t fit poor people, but I really wish they hadn’t gotten Metersbowne product placement.

    It is sort of fun trying to see what they’re hawking in each scene though.

    China needs more commercials like other countries…

  56. chopa Says:

    i don’t knowi f this was answered but does two episodes air every saturday or more? also the following youtube channel is posting the series up now:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/Cfanboys2

  57. chopa Says:

    woops answered sorry !

  58. Tracy Says:

    I’m on vacation, didnt get to watch it yet! :(
    but @heofs, I have Hunan TV in the US and I think they already convert the time for you. So I just tune into my TV at 10 pm and it would be showing.

  59. kitkataz23 Says:

    Overall, I’m quite happy with the series so far, although at some parts it became a little over dramatic and too anime-like.

    LOL, i think this is the first uni i’ve seen that makes students dress up like in highschool. hehe :P Oh yeah, I dont get the very off Aussie accent they’re trying to recreate…and MG cars?

  60. julie Says:

    Wow the shampoo ad lol

  61. julie Says:

    do you know what i hate about hunan?
    their painfully long commercial breaks

  62. ana Says:

    ep 4: http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/mWtnQqZU7q8/

    does anyone else support the main guy over the main girl so far?

  63. cfensi Says:

    @julie They need to make money though…Tiny Times isn’t going to become a series about the trendy upper elite by itself.

    @ana

    Thanks

    You’re right. I think in this version…

    Yuxun is headstrong, and isn’t perfect. She has a strong sense of right and wrong, but prejudices herself against Yunhai in the beginning and makes mistakes in judgment.

    …and Yunhai is proud, snobbish and condescending but not viciously mean in the beginning.

    I think they sort of grow up and mature together…and both become more understanding.

  64. julie Says:

    I’m done watching Ep 5 and 6, now hunantv is doing reruns of chou nv wudi

    Hm…the episodes were pretty good, Yunduo’s actually likes that stalkerish guy!!!! I always thought that he was the one she was being forced to marry. I think Yuxin’s “friend” at school is slowly becoming jealous of her. Yunhai is starting to become jealous of DuanMu as well.
    PS-The dress Yuxun got was from Yunhai =)

  65. julie Says:

    @cfensi: your right but….im just very impatient lol
    What would be your dream cast for tiny times?

  66. cfensi Says:

    My dream cast for Tiny Times…mmm…I think that would be an entirely new cast of six hot guys. Because there’s hotties out there in those drama schools that never get a break…since Chinese idol/romance series usually give their leading men roles to HK/TW actors. It’s funny too, because HK gives their leading lady movie roles to mainland/TW actresses while their own actresses suffer. It’s very unbalanced…one of the weird side affects of such a spread out culture.

    Dream cast (keep in mind I haven’t got a clue who the characters are…just know there’s six guys and four girls)

    Gao Xiaochen
    Zhang Cao
    Wang Xingkai
    Xu Zhengxi
    Shen Tai
    Ji Ning

    All are fairly young, good looking and need a big boost in exposure

    Girls

    …actually I don’t care so much. Hunan TV is really good at finding new young actresses that fit their dramas. Zhao Wei, Chou NV Wudi’s actress, Zhang Jiani, Zheng Shuang, etc, etc. TZheng Shuang is actually getting the most praise of everyone in the Meteor Shower cast so far…they’ll be fine with whomever they choose actress-wise.

  67. julie Says:

    @cfensi: I like your cast. I hope they get newbies/not that well known people to be in the drama.
    So are they 100% set on making a tiny times drama?
    I think Guo JingMing should make a cameo appearance lol

  68. Julie Says:

    I suddenly want the mean girls in meteor shower to be the lead girls in tiny times

  69. cfensi Says:

    Not sure if they are doing Tiny Times exactly, but I have faith in Long Danni to make whatever she sets her mind to great. Did you know she’s only 30-something?

    I read in an article that she gets death threats and verbally abused and mocked online, and she reads it all, in the baidu bars and it fuels her drive even more. She doesn’t get mad…she just laughs it off because she knows the fans out there saying stuff are young and protective of their idols. She turns something negative, into something positive.

    She is totally my idol. Love, love this woman. And how cool is it that the CEO of China’s best idol business is a woman? Very.

  70. Julie Says:

    Wow long danni is awesomeness
    Why does she receive death threats?
    And only in her 30s that’s amazing
    Grr I hate mean/rude people

  71. didi0504 Says:

    @ana

    i agree with u…i support the main guy over the main girl

    i liked her in the begining, but now it’s just too much….the main guy isn’t even mean to her, and she gets so…..

  72. idarklight Says:

    the vice-CEO of eeMedia is also female, and also fairly young, too. I don’t think CEO is the technical name, though, since eeMedia isn’t a public traded company, and I’m glad it isn’t because then they would have to listen to stockholders who probably aren’t as awesome as they are.

    @julie
    why wouldn’t she receive death threats? All the CCS/HJ/MG people all hate her.

    @cfensi
    The male leads are:
    1. perfectly rich, smart, business guy
    2. perfectly sweet, semi-rich guy
    3. Guo Jingming-like sickly author, intelligent and dying of cancer
    4. Guo Jingming-like editor-in-chief, picking biting
    5. least rich and least intelligent guy who is sweet and innocent (think the doctor guy in My Youth)
    6. street smart, jerk, rapist, but has a story (?)

    And of course, they’re all hot.

    Guo Jingming needs to be number 3

  73. ana Says:

    @didi0504 and @cfensi
    I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this way. The way the main girl (still have to grow use to the names- i keep wanting to drop “shan cai” and “dao ming si” left and right) attacks people for no reason… But on the other hand she’s still maintains a certain sense of likability. ;)

    Is there any specific couple people are shipping for? I really like the idea of Xiao Yu (小渔; the main gal’s friend outside of school) and Shangguan Rui Qian (上官瑞谦). My fav character so far Yei Shu. :D My least favs are the butler in ep.1 and the oddball detective. Ah, I guess I just don’t get the slapstick humor.

    and I think the last one is Meteor Garden.

    But most of the people flaming Meteor Shower are Boys over Flowers people. Probably because that one came out last, and most of its fans are thus younger, rather superficial, and prone to say silly things.

  76. julie Says:

    ^ Yes, those people annoy me to no end….oh well…I’ll just ignore them

  77. cfensi Says:

    @idarklight

    Hmmm in that case…

    1. Xu Zhengxi – looks great in a suit
    2. Wang Xingkai – friendly, guy next door looks
    3. Gao Xiaochen – he looks melancholy all the time
    4. Ji Ning – intense eyebrows
    5. Zhang Cao – sweet, innocent look
    6. Shen Tai – he has this smirk that is perfect for this role.

    I love my cast! 2, 4, 6 are from central, shanghai and Beijing film academies, the other three are something-turned-actors. I like Guo Jingming too, but his time and talents would be wasted in acting. And all are hot… is there an address for Long Danni that I can write to?

  78. julie Says:

    OMG looove your cast!!!!! Haha you should totally send it to Long Danni…

    I just finished watch EP7 of MS…it was really good!!!! Yunhai is starting to like her now…duan mulei!!!! your such a player haha

  79. julie Says:

    I just found out that Duan Mulei was fat and picked on when he was little
    (he looks COMPLETELY different from before)
    ARGHHHH just when yeshuo and yunduo were going to dance, shangguan interrupted them =(
    I love the piano teacher, she’s so nice (she didn’t interrupt duan mu and yuxun) Shangguan needs to learn something from her

  80. A. Says:

    You know, going with the title of this open thread, did you guys know there was a meteor shower last night? I watched for like an hour and ended up only seeing 2… oh well, it’s better than nothing.

    I’ve started to watch this drama… I like how it doesn’t restrict itself to the original plotline and that they make liberties with the small details. I’m only on episode 4, so I’m a little behind. If you look on Tudou, a lot of the comments are harsh… ouch. Which is understandable. Like, first of all, they give off a faux-high class sense. And, I’m sorry, but I don’t understand why Yu Haoming couldn’t have his normal hair and WHY they had to give him that horrible hairstyle. It just looks so bad on him…

    The dialogue is childish, but I’ve come to realize that all idol dramas are childish. Or maybe it’s just because I’m so used to watching a) historical/epic dramas that have like complicated vocab, b) stuff like Who Controls My Youth/Struggle where the dialogue is oh-so-colorful and truly epic. I’ve more or less come to a theory that, well, China is best with producing dramas like the aforementioned, including stuff like the espionage stuff or whatnot. China’s dramas more or less convey a sense of reality and the very concept of idol dramas [which is pretty much the antithesis of reality] sort of gives a different perspective that I’m not used to. I know Korean dramas embody this wonderful, dreamland, ANTI-reality stuff which give them an escapism stuff, but I am so used to real-world Chinese dramas that it’s like, whoa.

    I’m pretty sure that no other new versions of this story will be as epic as the Japanese version, but this version is very… qing chun. As it’s supposed to be. The cinematography and all is very nice, it’s refreshing. It’s interesting because this version also aspires to bring in the story of like youths growing up, which is the apparent theme in the Japanese one… I want to see how they do it with this one.

  81. A. Says:

    Though I am also agreeing that I like Yunhai A LOT better than Yuxun… whose actions are a little questionable. Okay maybe it’s just me, but Yunhai oozes charisma for me. LOL. Or maybe I will always like whatever version Tsukasa there is.

    Is Jerry Huang full Chinese? He looks very half…

  82. A. Says:

    LOL & they keep mentioning my school, LOL. Twice already.

  83. Anonymous Says:

    @A.
    Aww…the comments are harsh? That’s so mean…there are some nice ones right?

  84. A. Says:

    Yeah, there are. They’re more understanding and are like, “Even though _____, this is still not bad for a ‘first-attempt’ at making idol dramas.” A lot of comments are like, “一起来看雷星雨,” LOL. I have to give credit to whoever came up with that b/c that is creative, LOL.

    Most of the comments criticize at the faux-extravagance and are like, “Wow, you can tell there was a recession going on.” And a lot of people criticize Yu Haoming’s styling.

  85. yelei Says:

    Yeah, I heard from my brother that there was a meteor shower yesterday night. But since I live in the city, I couldn’t see it

  86. julie Says:

    I like how the things in this drama arent super extravagent, because it makes it more realistic
    Plus, haoming’s hairstyle changes =D

  87. julie Says:

    What does 一起来看雷星雨 mean?
    Thunder shower? huh?

  88. A. Says:

    It’s like a play on words. I’m not sure how to translate it exactly, but a lot of people are saying they’re getting “雷到” while watching the drama – I can’t think of a good word to translate this into but it’s not exactly a compliment.

    @ julie

    But they’re supposed to be rich = extravagant. I mean, realistically speaking, if Yunhai were really looking for real, good sports cars, he wouldn’t be looking at those cars. And in the storyline I’m sure he’s rich enough to afford cars better than the cars he’s driving.

  89. julie Says:

    Later on, he’s going to have a really good looking red sports car, I saw it in the preview when yunhai and yuxun were beating people up =D
    I want to tell those chinese netizens not to judge until they finish watching the whole thing. But my chinese sucks lol

  90. cfensi Says:

    @A. and anonymous… I’ll just repost this…

    People are mocking not because it’s bad, but rather because they dislike Hunan TV, the Superboys, etc. Most of those articles were compiled based on stuff being said before it even aired. In reality, it’s not just good for a “first attempt”. It’s just good in general.

    The Chinese people that are saying it’s not realistic need to stop, because if that is the complaint…then how is entertainment supposed to thrive?

    Just because China does mostly more realistic series, doesn’t mean it can’t start with crazyiness. I hate that mentality. When watching the movie Lease Wife I was thinking how nice it would be if the guy and the prostitute got together at the end. My aunt said that couldn’t happen in real life. But she’s a fan of Pretty Women. Chinese people can embrace realism in non Chinese movies, but they can’t in Chinese things? Chinese entertainment, and entertainment in general needs diversity. Stupid self-imposed restrictions aren’t going to help Chinese entertainment at all.

    If you need a realistic excuse about the cars though, Murong Yunhai says at one point to Yuxun that a simpleton like her couldn’t understand supporting domestic products. Which makes sense if they are both business majors.

  91. A. Says:

    Well, of course, but it’s just awkward for me to watch the idol dramas because that is the antithesis of what I’ve seen before. There’s something else that feels awkward, but at the moment I can’t tell what it is. This is not bad, but I wished the dialogue didn’t come off as more elementary-school-ish. Eh, though that may be a side-effect of idol dramas, since the dialogue isn’t dazzling in TW dramas most of the time.

    Wait, what about supporting domestic products? To be honest, on that issue, if you REALLY wanted to boost the quality and actually make domestic products better, you should be supporting competition, which will encourage the domestic companies to better production. However, if it’s a problem of economies of scale, then it requires a lot of capital and thus more encouragement from domestic consumers to actually create profit. So you have to see what sort of market it is instead of blindly just supporting domestic products.

  92. cfensi Says:

    Hmm…you’re the first person I’ve heard who thinks the dialogue is bad though. It make have a youthful aura, but it’s still very well written. idarklight and I both were hestitant about this after seeing the trailers, but loved the dialogue and for that very reason started watching this. And hoistdacolors doesn’t even really watch Chinese drama but because the script is so well done, she’s subbing this.

    It’s not the sharp, wowing kind wit of Fen Dou/Who Controls My Youth but that sort of dialogue wouldn’t fit. This is smart, but also fitting for a youthful drama.

    I think you mistook what I meant…

    My point was that if you are looking for a realistic reason for why Yunhai likes those cars, besides just product placement, is that, like the script gives, he wants to support Chinese cars.

    And the car industry in China is such that if Chinese people don’t support it, then it will crumple and never get better because US and Japanese cars have developed so much earlier. Not everything is survival of the fittest. Some countries developed economically before others, and not everything is equal footing. Quotas and local support make it equal footing.

    I’ll quote Kevin Geiger from his interview at Twitch, because he said it well (with regards to animation):

    (SARFT) is attempting to support the domestic industry in part by imposing quotas on foreign animation imports, but it’s debatable whether this ultimately helps or hurts Chinese animators. To draw an analogy, boxers improve themselves through competition, but if you take on the champ before you’re ready, you could be hurt or killed.

  93. A. Says:

    Hm, well I was thinking dialogue that was more like… I’m not sure but like in Tiny Times. Both are college student situations, though Tiny Times is much more drama queen than this… iono. The dialogue in there isn’t exactly as sharp as Struggle’s but this… iono. I feel like by they time they’ve gotten to college, they probably would have learned better insults than the usual 脑残, 猪头, etc. But then again, you may be right, this may end up being best-suited for this drama.

    Instead of possibly imposing quotas [does China do this now for imported cars and such?] – I think a better way China could support its domestic industry is by giving subsidies to companies and helping them get the appropriate, up-to-date technology that allows greater production, better quality, etc. Allowing these companies to amass more capital through subsidies and such to give them the backing to truly compete, I think, is much more advantageous to China’s car company.

  94. cfensi Says:

    China’s gov does already though.. cars fall into Research and Development, and China spend the most in the world on that.
    But since it is an industry that takes a lot of capital, it also takes more time to develop. It won’t develop overnight. Chinese cars have improved though…to get to widespread international level (it’s actually already heading international now)…I’d give it 6-10 more years. But it will definitely reach that stage just like most things in China due to its growing market size.

    Lol, at where this conversation led.

  95. A. Says:

    LOL, yes, we jumped from MS -> economics.

    Okay, in the middle of episode 7. Oh my. Yunhai’s hair at the dance… LOL.

  96. cfensi Says:

    Lol, Yunhai has become such a loveable dork in the drama now. Hopefully this isn’t too early for a more loveable personality shift.

    Everything is China has something to do with economics though, because basically economy is one of the main limiting factors on what a country can or cannot do. And since economy is also basically how many people there are with purchasing power, and since China is one of most rapidly changing countries in that aspect…you can relate everything to it.

    It’s very fun to observe if you’re like me and get bored easily because it’s so dynamic. Once the economy changes, everything else, like entertainment etc is only a few steps away from changing. Like a domino effect.

    The world is pretty logical…and thus, semi-predictable. There are trends everywhere, and it’s fun to try and see what will happen, when it will happen, and usually, using with some precedents in history, you can see into the future without being too far off.

    It’s almost funny, (and I’m writing for myself now)…I think I’m starting to think even change is stagnant because it’s predictable.

  97. yelei Says:

    this post is going to be like a spam =/

    anyways, it’s almost 100 comments .. holy cow!

  98. cfensi Says:

    Random thought:

    Isn’t it amazing that Madeleine L’Engle can write one of the most classic sci-fi books for children without actually much scientific background?

  99. A. Says:

    Well, true. Likewise, you can economics to every little aspect of your own life, if you want to.

    Yunhai is a very loveable dork. The same thing happened in the Korean BOF – I liked Lee Minho’s Goo Joonpyo because he was also a loveable dork. I will not proceed to talk about the Korean Tsukushi – oh my god I hated that. Yuxun I like infinitely more than the Korean one… however, why is Yuxun always angry?? LOL, my sister occassionally walks in on me watching it and she’s like, “Why is the girl always angry?” LOL.

  100. cfensi Says:

    Well, applying it to my life is not as fun as on a global scale.

    I didn’t get far in BOF, but since BOF was everywhere when it was airing, I sort of gleamed that the main girl became really weak towards the end.

    Yuxun I’m getting is supposed to be a bit immature in her crusades from this version…so that she can mature during the course of the series. Otherwise, why else would there be a scene Duan Mulei criticizing her for how she handled something?

    He’s like the guardian angel in this…not really a romantic interest at all. But he’s definitely the most mature of all the guys.

    Maturity wise it’d be from most to least:

    Duan Mulei (I guess he learned quickly in how to deal with people from being picked on in his youth)
    Ye Shuo
    Murong Yunhai
    Shangguan Ruiqian

    I guess that makes sense then that those first two are going after older women, lol.

  101. chinkirox Says:

    do you know how many eps r there for meteor shower? cause they’re playing 12 eps/week!

  102. A. Says:

    Really? Is Duanmu Lei really just staying as the “guardian angel”? The previews for ep. 9 & 10 [I've completely caught up now] show him using her to make Yu Xin jealous, et cetera. Plus, some of the scenes in the opening & endings scenes are a little ambiguous… iono.

    Poor Yunhai… Though I will admit I’m a little sadistic in liking the parts where the guy pines over the girl [of course, NOT creepily] and me feeling sad for the guy while the girl is oblivious / ignores / snubs his feelings. Boo.

  103. Julie Says:

    I love shangguan ruiqian’s immaturity
    @chinkirox: there’s going to be 36 episodes

  104. A. Says:

    Okay, just kidding, someone uploaded ep. 9 & 10. Still watching then, LOL. Tsk, Yuxun asks immaturely on this matter…

  105. idarklight Says:

    first of all, I’ve only seen four eps, so I may not be the best judge of anything…

    @A.
    the use of words like 脑残, 猪头 may be childish, but it’s also realistic. What really captures me about this drama, to quote Gao Xiaosong, who I hate, is how it manages to “say complex things in simple words, which is the highest level of writing.”

    The whole drama has, so far, used extremely simple words, but it manages to produce a lot of hilarious moments that have “classic quote” potentials.

    Guo Jingming, imo, has the same abilities. I first fell in love with his creative metaphors that sound so beautiful in Chinese but are so simple that they lose everything when translated into English..

    @cfensi
    But guy #5 is also an athlete…some what of a blockhead. He also needs to be very muscular since he kind of goes nude for a scene. Zhang Chao doesn’t exactly fit that role. And to be honest, I would rather him pursue his studies. He seems to have already quit the industry already, and it may not be a bad choice.

    Guy number 2 is also shady, too. There are numerous suspicions of him cheating on the main girl. He’s almost wimpy at points.

    Kimi would be perfect for the last guy…not that that’s a compliment

    Oh, and there’s also a mixed gay guy from New York(?)

  106. A. Says:

    You know, in Tiny Times, my favorite guy was one of the girls’ cousin [the mixed gay guy from the States] and the editor-in-chief [HE was hawt just because he exuded that cool, model-esque composure and all]. Jian Xi annoyed the heck out of me and I seriously just wanted the girl to break up with him. The fight between Gu Yuan & Gu something [darn I forgot her name... shoot.] frustrated me the most.

    The moment you mentioned Kimi as that part I totally saw him in that part. That really isn’t a compliment, but he really fits that role.

    As for the dialogue, I’m still fencing on how I feel about it. Whatever – I’ll just keep watching anyway, LOL. Yunhai is such a cute dork. LOL.

  107. Anonymous Says:

    i think a lot of the netizens are really creative in these~~
    “一起来看雷阵雨” is one of them…
    and there was something else i found really funny, he said “日本糟蹋我们的西游记,我们就糟蹋他们的花样男子“
    and some other netizens said “太雷了! 难怪日本都地震了啊。。。”

    @julie

    me too~~~ i really like shangguan’s role in this drama

  108. cfensi Says:

    @anon

    Chinese netizens are all quite well-read and intelligent it seems…maybe it is due to fancy dialogue from Chinese tv series or whatever, I don’t know. They come up with puns faster than anyone. But they should use that power for good instead of evil.

    @ A.

    Yeah, I think Duan Mulei has made it pretty clear that he doesn’t like her at all, especially from what he says in episode 10. And she doesn’t seem to care based on her response.

    @idarklight

    Well that’s easily solved if I switch Zhang Cao with Wang Xingkai…because Wang Xingkai is very muscular and built and they both have the same friendly looks.

    But unfortunately, Wang Xingkai is the one from Central Academy of Drama. His supposed talent would be wasted if he were to play the dumb jock role. I know, I know, I’m getting way into casting this, but unfortunately I never get to talk about certain hotties in the industry, so bear with me as I trample this opportunity to death.

    Wang Xingkai doesn’t seem like the Central Academy of Drama type. They usually have a very mature, suave, masculine air, aka perfect for leading roles.

    I guess Zhang Cao can make a short appearance as the mixed gay guy from New York if he’s busy with studies.

  109. A. Says:

    Yeah, the Chinese netizens puns crack me up – hence why I like reading the comments on Tudou or whatever, even though some of them can be a little harsh.

    Ugh, this 2 episodes/day is killing me – it’s like a race to catch up seriously, LOL.

  110. Julie Says:

    I just finished watching episode 11…it was focused on yunhai and yuxun.
    Yeshuo’s gift to Yunduo was so sweet!

    For some reason, soompi isn’t working for me, whenever i press post comment, it transfers me back to the homepage

  111. cfensi Says:

    @julie…I think it’s because you have to wait 30sec before you post again. Flood control.

    Random question, since most famous Chinese actors are around age 30, if China actually redid HYD around that age…who would be who?

    Makino – Zhou Xun/Li Xiaolu
    Domyouji – Jing Dong (Jing Dong!!!)
    Rui – Chen Kun
    Soujirou – Yan Kuan
    Akira – Huang Xiaoming

    Hell, Li Xiaolu could probably play Makino now. I swear, she passes for 15…she doesn’t look 28 or 29 or whatever she is at all.

  112. Julie Says:

    Haha that would be really interesting
    I would definitely watch it

  113. idarklight Says:

    Li Xiaolu can definitely pass for Makino now.

    but what a waste of acting that would be for that cast to do HYD. I liked the internet’s version of mid-aged (as in looks mid-aged…) F4. I think Chen Daoming would a greating Daoming Si. I mean, their names alone should clue you in.

    ———–
    Zhang Han’s character is so much better than Domy. Domy, like the My Hero guys said, is really too violent, careless and useless.
    But that also made Zheng Shuang’s character a bit overshadowed and not understanding…I also don’t get her obsession with Yu Haoming’s character, who has pretty much told her, multiple times, that he doesn’t like her.

  114. cfensi Says:

    But but… Jing Dong – Jing Dong!!! I’m sorry…that never gets old for me for some reason).

    Most fan chosen HYDs are a waste of talent because they are all their ideal actors, for four parts that really only requires good acting from one character maybe two characters. And it’s an idol series anyway. But Chen Kun is PERFECT for Rui. Uniquely gorgeous…and eyes that are always melancholy.

    I bet in ten more years, Li Xiaolu will be paired with guys not just a decade younger, like now, but with guys who are two decades younger. She’s probably wondering how many more My Hero guys she’s got to act with.

    Who were the other middle aged guys? I think I saw this fanmade version a lot on the tvs on the buses in Chengdu.

  115. Julie Says:

    Chen Kun would be an awesome Rui, I love him. But yeah, it’s kind of a waste of talent for big names like them.

    What are the chances of an American publishing company translating Tiny Times (or other Guo JingMing books) and distributing them in North America?

  116. chinkirox Says:

    if there’s only going to be 36 eps then it’s going to be finished in 3 weeks! I wonder if hunan tv is trying to finish airing everything before school starts?

    I really wonder when America is going to make their own version too? b/c there’s a Thai and Vietnamese version in production right now.

    I don’t know if I should hate murong’s mom yet… it seems like she really does want what’s best for her kids instead of for the company.

  117. idarklight Says:

    @chinkirox
    I agree with the mom. She gave that guy a chance, and he blew it off. And then he blames his failure in overlooking an obvious flaw by quitting. He seems like a fairly arrogant airhead.

    Plus, he slapped Wei Chen. XD

    Mainland TV stations always airs everyday. Hunan, I believe, goes in 1 and a half hour blocks, and their “Hunan special” shows are always two eps a day.

    @julie
    not very?

  118. Julie Says:

    I wonder why Yunduo’s boyfriend quit alicetown…
    The mom’s nice now, but I bet when she finds out about Yuxun, she won’t be so nice anymore =P

    Ughh…I really want to read Tiny Times…but my chinese is bad

  119. A. Says:

    Completely random, but I was looking at the homepage of chinamp3.com [where I now pretty much DL music off of] and they have a new album out from Chris Lee called POLA 片. Is this a real album or something? Or did she plan on coming out with an album this summer?

  120. idarklight Says:

    @A.
    Li Yuchun is coming out with a new album. I didn’t know it was called POLa片…but you can listen to most of it on youtube now. It also includes a song she composed herself, called “amour.”

  121. Anonymous Says:

    so I don’t know where to put this but do you know coco lee’s back? she has a new album out!

  122. Anonymous Says:

    Woah two episodes a day?! I’m soooo behind -o-
    Yeah Coco Lee’s new album…I haven’t even heard it yet…is it any good?
    Is there seriously going to be a Thai and Vietnamese HYD?! That is really…too much.

  123. didi0504 Says:

    i just finished watching ep 11 & 12 on pps~~ yunhai and yuxun are soooo cute together!!!! i think i’m starting to like yuxun again~~ haha….she’s soo cute when she’s angry.

    maybe it’s b/c i’m so used to the airing everyday thing, that i never get to finish watching those dramas that air 2 episodes/week. i lose all my interest while waiting

  124. cfensi Says:

    I don’t think there’s going to be a Viet and Thai one. Or a Filipino one. I think people just said that because of the popularity of the HYD story, and fans from those countries put up “fanmade” cast of the cutest actors from each country. Nothing was official…

    Jing Dong, Jing Dong where are your dramas? Infernal Lovers? Qu Yan An? I need to hear that voice…guh.

  125. yelei Says:

    I doubt America will make such thing. I can’t imagine them remaking this drama. I have a feeling if there is a remake (not possible) relating to teens, the word ‘sex’ will be mentioned regularly. That’s a typical US teen series to you right there.

  126. A. Says:

    On chinamp3.com, they have “Amour,” so I’m assuming then that this might be her new album… huh. It must have leaked early then?

  127. idarklight Says:

    @yelei
    Or Disney could do it…Starring Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers (maybe they can be F3 instead)…lol

    @A.
    Li Yuchun fans wouldn’t put it up illegally, and her fans have the songs up. I believe she’s going the digital route by releasing everything digitally first.

    Okay, so I am trying to catch up and I know Tudou is deleting the videos because of copyright stuff… but the people uploading the videos upload the videos elsewhere too and usually they work but today there must be something wrong with my internet [even though the speedtest says my DL speed is 7 MB/sec, when I tried to DL a song it was only going at like 10 KB/sec...] b/c none of those sites are loading… GAH.

    Where are you guys watching the videos?

  133. A. Says:

    I just realized why their blue jackets looked so familiar – it’s like the Gossip Girl uniforms…

  134. yelei Says:

    @cfensi: you should visit the Meteor Shower thread on soompi :) the thread is moving at a fast pace.

  135. cfensi Says:

    Are you talking to me? I’m over there…

    @A. Metersbowne designed the uniform…maybe you saw it in a Metersbowne ad too? I don’t remember the Gossip Girl uniform. I stopped watching Gossip girl after season 1. That’s I guess what I usually do with American series. Even if it’s the cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers, they usually take a nosedive after season 1.

    Such good creative stories destroyed by the fact that they drag until ratings crash.

  136. yelei Says:

    Yeah, I saw that, and I was like, what. Because it was then that I was searching for ep. 13. Thank goodness for soompi, which has DL links – even though it’s a hassle for me to DL 300-some MB files… good thing my internet is faster so it only takes a few minutes now.

  141. julie Says:

    @A. Lucky, it takes me like and hour

  142. A. Says:

    LOL julie, I’m sorry.

    Oh. My. God. Episode 13 further convinced me of why I like Yunhai better than Yuxun – like, wtf, man? Yuxun, even though you might not have said verbally anything to Yunhai, you totally led him on! And now you’re like, No, I never said I liked you, I just think you’re cute and nice instead of annoying… wtf?!?! Yuxun, please go jump off a cliff now – according to Baidu tiebas, EVEN UNTIL EPISODE 18 does this girl not come to her senses… though I have yet to get there yet.

    Poor Yunhai, my goodness.

  143. A. Says:

    I’m sorry for comment spamming here… but, SERIOUSLY. PLEASE JUMP OFF CLIFF NOW, MISS CHU YUXUN. THE BOTTOM OF THE CLIFF HAS BEEN WAITING FOR YOU. How can you be so insensitive to Yunhai??

    Please. Before I jump into the screen and drag you towards the cliff personally.

  144. A. Says:

    But, eek, the people belaying for the rock climbing show off and belaying weird… why don’t they have a harness too?? And even though 2 people are belaying, the way they’re holding the rope, if any of them fell, the rope would just slide through their fingers… Incorrect belaying! My gym teacher would have a fit.

  145. idarklight Says:

    @A.

    you just made my day. XD

    glad to know I’m not the only one frustrated by how insensitive Yuxun is to Yunhai, who’s done everything he could right.

  146. mrpeng Says:

    whos GD?

  147. A. Says:

    Oh, LOL, G-Dragon. His new solo album came out, LOLOL.

  148. Anonymous Says:

    @A

    OMG!!!i totally agree with u!!! i’ve stopped watching after ep 13. i SERIOUSLY WANT HER TO JUMP OFF A CLIFF also!!!!!omg…..
    i skipped all the ep in between and tried to watch ep 18 on ppstream this morning, and she’s still like that….i couldn’t kept on watching, so i just closed it.

  149. yelei Says:

    @A. there is a big controversy happening about Gdragon’s new album especially the song “Heartbreaker” which is similar to Florida’s “You Spin Me Right Around”. Ugh, I found some Gdragon fans quite biased. -_-

    @brightlight: ewww! Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus! what is up with her on and off relationship with one of the brothers? Btw, I really don’t get why Jonas Brothers is popular in the first place. Ugh, this is why I’m starting to dislike Disney Channel more and more.

  150. idarkligh Says:

    @yelei
    At least the Jonas Brothers compose their own songs, unlike 99% of Asian and other boybands.
    I have no idea about their relationships…the only Disney stars I really like are Zach and Cody. XD

    ——-
    anyone else super excited for this week’s Super GIrls?

    Cai Yun Zhui Yue!!! and the duets!!!

  151. cfensi Says:

    What? Zach and Cody…? *faints from disbelief*

    OMG!!! Are you for real? Cai Yun Zhui Yue acapella???

    *runs around screaming in excitement*

  152. yelei Says:

    @idarklight: i typed your name as brightlight instead, oops. Zach and Cody are an exception. I hope they don’t turn out like some teen celebrities -_-;

    can you anyone update me on Super Girls? After ZYK left, I basically have no clue what is happening. Tan Lina didn’t make it into Top 5 , right? O_O

  153. yelei Says:

    by the way, this entry has reach 150 something comments *O*.. I wonder if it will make it to 200.

  154. idarkligh Says:

    It’s the only show I used to watch back when we had cable. Apparently they have a new version now and replaced Maddie?

    They’re so chubby (in a non-baby fat cute way) now…

    ———
    it’s the 5to4 competition, don’t they always have an acapella? The 2006 one was a mess, though.

  155. cfensi Says:

    I thought they were cute in Big Daddy…not so much now.

    Yes, they do have acapella, but I haven’t heard a good rendition of Cai Yun Zhui Yue in so so long.

    Can the girls do it this time?

    2006 one sucked.

  156. idarklight Says:

    crap…

    本周“快乐女声”的主题是“手牵手”,寓意是和台湾人民 手牵手共同抗击灾难。快女五强将牵手同魏晨、吉杰、俞 灏明、张杰、苏醒五位快男,在“快女”周五的直播中一同在开场时演唱《阳光总在风雨后》通过节目传递爱心, 表达大陆人民和他们血肉相连的同胞之情。同时,快女十强的十位选手也会悉数到场,共同表达自己的一份心愿。

    now I’m worried. They won’t not have an accapella instead, will they? Nooo! I’ve been looking forward to it since forver…

    ————
    @yelei
    Pan Chen and Tan Lina both left. Now there are five. Next week they’re singing duets.
    Yu Kewei-Wei Chen
    Yu Haoming – Liu XIjun
    Huang Ying – Ji Jie
    Zhang Jie – Jiang Yingrong
    Su Xing – Li Xiaoyun

    Really like the last two pairing. Hate Huang Ying – Ji Jie pairing. Unsure about the first two…

  157. julie Says:

    My favorite pairing is LXJ&YHM but I don’t know why lol, I just like both of them
    YKW&VC both have great voices, but I’m not sure

    *barfs at HY&JJ* not that I don’t like them separately, i just don’t like that pairing

  158. A. Says:

    Haha @ the pairings. LXJ & YHM can sing a Cantonese song together – they’re both from that region, right? But I too also love the last two pairings… I can not wait. Well. I haven’t caught up too much with Super Girls these days…

    Okay, just a question… I’m assuming a lot / most of you guys are Mainland Chinese [if not, sorry]… what is your standing on the Taiwan-Mainland conflict? I’ll say mine after someone else does [because I don't wanna come off as extreme, but I think I just gave away my position]. LOL what’s funny is my TW friends and I have had arguments about this before, LOL…

  159. idarklight Says:

    I wrote this in the af forum…but I had really hoped that this would be Liu Xijun’s breakthrough in emotions. So far, she’s been rather reserved in her singing and emotions, always showing off a little but never really exposing it. In that, she reminded me a bit of Wei Chen before the duet with He Jie.

    But Yu Haoming, so far, has unable been prove himself as a singer, and I don’t know if he’ll have the vocals to back Liu Xijun up even if she is able to hit the emotional breakthrough, which must be even harder for Liu Xijun than Wei Chen since she’s an experienced singer who has more protective shields around her.

    basically, I’m really worried for them.

  160. A. Says:

    Oh, and this is SUPER COMPLETELY random… but can someone help me edit something I’m writing in Chinese? It is so crappy & I need constructive criticism… ]:

  161. Anonymous Says:

    meteor rain’s ost is out!

  162. chinkirox Says:

    @yelei: but i feel like the only way the Asian boy/girl band will be able to break into mainstream in the US is through Disney since most of them like the Disney stars are mostly just look and some voice, no composition talent.

    I’ve been waiting for SE7EN to break into mainstream, he defiantly has the talent (and the “street credit” that’s so important in the Hip Hop/R&B/Rap industry) but it just doesn’t seem to be going anywhere…

    Another person I expected to brake into mainstream is Leehom but he doesn’t seem to be interested, which is a shame. He would’ve been a great medium to close the gap between the east and the west…

  163. yanyan Says:

    @A: Haha that’s definitely one topic most people avoid, especially since it can get ugly very quickly. Looking from a political point of view, you can understand why Mainland China does not want to let Taiwan from it’s grasp. It becomes a matter of power and dignity. I mean if you ask anyone in who as born before the 90s, they would say of course Taiwan belongs to them. Formally Taiwan still belongs to China in my opinion and it’s because they don’t have the power to declare their independence and no other country wants to interfere with this issue.

    @chinkirox: It seems that Se7en is not getting anywhere. He’s album has been pushed back so much it’s getting ridiculous. It’s such a pity though because he’s really talented.

    I’m guessing that YX and YH are finally together now? Haven’t watched today’s episodes yet. Finally!

  164. cfensi Says:

    @ A.

    Xu Zhengxi is a model, but he has recently turned to acting and seems to be quite serious about it. He got I believe the #2 spot next to Liu Ye in the drama version of Invisible Target.

    All of my imaginary cast for Tiny Times has some acting experience. Otherwise I’d stick someone like Rojam Wang in there because his eyebrows would be awesome too for some of the roles.

    Shen Tai, my original guy for the rapist I just found out was in the same graduating class at Beijing Film Academy as Liu Yifei:
    http://ent.sina.com.cn/j/2009-08-19/16572660530.shtml

  165. A. Says:

    So he is the dude who won like the men’s modeling competition, Men’s Uno or whatever it was called? If I remembered correctly? LOLOL.

    I want to watch the drama version of Du Lala’s Promotion. WLD ftw. Why is she so skinny!! [Inspiration for losing weight, which is the opposite of my pigging out lately.] What has the guy been in? And why does he look sorta familiar?

  166. idarklight Says:

    @A.
    Is there anyway you could emphasize the fact that it’s all self-composed on your post a little? sorry…I’m like spazzing out here because I’m so happy for her. And I’m one of those people who has never gotten where all her fans came from.

    in regards to your question for lj, Li Yuchun’s managing company is eeMedia, but her record deal is with Taihe Rye.

    Top Combine and Yu Haoming (and hopefully not Wei Chen) have record deals with DoReMi. Wang Yuexin and Amu are with Seed. An Youqi is with Avex. Tan Weiwei is with Huayou.

    Zhang Jie and Xu Fei are like the only major Super Boys/Girls who are still under eeMedia.

  167. Julie Says:

    Sigh…I don’t really like Doremi

  168. yelei Says:

    Se7en is actually returning to Korea and IS releasing an album after 2 years of break.

  169. paloozaster Says:

    im a bit disappointed in this drama. Honestly i love korean dramas and i think everything they do is fairly high quality. i was sort of hoping that this chinese version could at least level with the other versions, because it’s obvious that the chinese version won’t be able to be better than the korean version. As a chinese i really think it would have been better that they did not make this drama at all, this is just giving everyone else another reason to laugh at us.

  170. Anonymous Says:

    i am watching ep 21, i just wanted to say … i love yunhai!!! i think he’s the best domouji! he’s not the best looking one, but he’s the sweetest one!!

  171. julie Says:

    @paloozaster: Did you even watch it? The script is amazing and the storyline is way better. Go on soompi, everyone there LOVES it.

  172. chinkirox Says:

    i like how they didnt make these guys seem like complete spoiler playboys &how they all have a reason for the why they act but i still dont like wei chen’s character. I understand why his doing it but still it’s his brother =[

  173. Anonymous Says:

    the whole drama 1-36 is now available online

  174. beibeijing Says:

    does anyone know any streaming sites that can be downloaded on a mac?

  175. yelei Says:

    @beibeijing: you should check out the Meteor Shower thread on soompi

  176. kale Says:

    I don’t know why but I’m annoyed with Mulei’s character.
    I don’t like that character and I don’t like the fact that the love triangle relationship is going on and on for so long.
    Can Yuxun make up her mind quickly?

    Paloozaster, since you love korean stuff then of course you’re inclined to say korean version is best. TBH, that amnesia thingy, the fiancee popped up out of no where is just annoying. lots of people think about the korean setting being chic but it’s a copycat of european/western setting which is odd for Asian people.
    I also don’t understand your logic that there won’t be a better version than korean? I hope you’re joking cause there are many weaknesses in that version too.

  177. pat Says:

    hey guys…sorry for just appearing out of nowhere.. :P
    but i was wondering if you could give me some sites where i could find pics of this drama,and H4 together.. :) )…i have been searching but the same stuff come up..since this is not like when you type Boys Over Flowers and search, hundreds of pics will come your way.. :|
    so thanks in advance.. :) ))
    i want to collect some pics…since i’m still waiting for episode 27-30 to be subbed in english cause i don’t understand mandarin that much…
    but still…i’m loving this version…it has a different flavor.. :) ))

  178. mrpeng Says:

    lol.. i highly doubt paloozaster is who she/he claims to be. my sister watches many drama’s and she’s criticizes most drama’s for its script, acting and so on. and she says meteor shower is a great drama.

  179. chinkirox Says:

    I really like the script for this version, I like how the situations and reactions are more realistic then the other versions … but still something’s missing … maybe I’m just too used to heart wrenching Kdramas. I also liked the fact that this version is a lot “cleaner” they cut out the going-to-club-ending-in-hotel-with-stranger thing (I never understood why they even needed that part) And the humor and the drama is just right for the characters’ age and family background. My favorite character has to be Shang Guan (he lightens the mood a lot). The ending was OK, there wasn’t really a finale feel, but I guess that’s because there’s another reason.

  180. mrpeng Says:

    ahh. is it just me or was there a post on a 60th china anniversary movie? i cant find it. i remember reading something about how so many chinese actors and actresses are trying to be in this movie. any ways. is this the movie trailer.

    i see zhang zhiyi, jet li, chen kun, etc, etc.

  181. mrpeng Says:

    oh snap. and it think that is jackie chan at 2:36. haha. i only noticed it after watching this the 4th time.

  182. eArLiNa Says:

    wOwYyOoW…………….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    kErEn AbIZzZzZ……………….!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    _I LOVE U_
