The Chinese Box Officejust keeps climbing and climbing. For the first half of the year it reached 2.3 Billion in revenue. The overall box office for the year is estimated at 5.5 million which would show a 32% increase from last year. This is the sixth year in which it has sustained a 25% + growth. Considering that number is a percentage, China’s BO’s ability to maintain it is very impressive. And now formerly indie directors are finding that there’s no reason to stay indie.
Sixth Generation Indie Director, Wang Xiaoshuai who was last heard lashing out at commercially-successful Chinese directors, has apparently decided he has had enough of sitting on the sidelines when everyone else is taking advantage of China’s film goldmine. He plans to shoot a romance film set during the Sichuan Earthquake with a $60 million yuan budget, and says he would like to cast Han Geng. He gave choices for leading ladies as Jiang Yiyan, Tang Yan, and Gao Yuanyuan.
It’s been a while since I posted on stars that weren’t Chinese, but Will Smith‘s family is just too precious to pass up. They recently attended the first press conference of the movie, Kung Fu Kid, a remake of the 1984 Karate Kid movie, but with a name change to befit the location change. Jackie Chan will be taking up Pat Morita’s role, changed from Mr. Miyagi to Mr. Han.
I was wondering what Liu Yifei has done recently to deserve being on Harpaar’s Bazaar, probably the most successful magazine in China until I noticed the “Jewelry” appendage. I didn’t know they had a jewerly version of their magazine. They really must be doing well, with a version for Men, and now this.

I love to hear about women composers because females get that “not as creative” label sometimes. Thus finding out that one of the Supergirls, 19 year-old Wen Xiaorui had composed foridol singer Li Yifeng before was a pleasant surprise.
Apparently she first wrote Good Night, Ferris Wheel for his first EP, and then three other songs for his new album, including Gou Yi Gou, Xiang Xie Yi Shou Ge, and Zui! Diao Che Wei. She also has written quite a few other ones that she’s releasing herself, including the most recent “Na Ge” or “That”, which I liked so much that I uploaded for you; download it here.
These are really too cute. It’s a simple photoshoot, unlike the usual extravagant, by the beach, costumed shots. And they both seem like really low-key people, so it’s fitting, and it shows off their happiness well. I believe they’re heading to France next for their French wedding.

One of the first articles that I posted on this site was actor Liu Ye stating that he and his girlfriend, Anais Martane would marry, “soon”, and that they would do it in both a traditional French and Chinese style . Well nearly a year later, Liu Ye has kept that promise, and pictures from the ceremonies (both of them) show the bride and groom as happy as can be.

With this being the last in the Condor Trilogy that director Zhang Jizhong has yet to remake, anticipation has been high for this version of HSDS. Not really from me, because I’ve never really gotten into wuxia but after seeing the trailer and the gorgeous cinematography that’s definitely changed. It’s shot so prettily! And then finally I will be able to shake off that feeling of shame at being Chinese, and yet having no idea what the hell people are talking about when they discuss Jin Yong ‘s body of work. And I may be the only one who thinks this, but Deng Chao looks so hot in it.

Meteor Shower’s theme song was released featuring the voices of all four “Hua”.The soundtrack will feature the lovely voices of Wei Chen and Yu Haoming …and the voices of Zhang Han, Zhu Zixiao and Zheng Shuang. The series will be shown in early August on Hunan TV, after Always Smile! finishes airing.
