Trailers/MV for Meteor Shower, HSDS 2009, and Remembrance of Dreams Past

By cfensi

There’s a been a lot of television trailers coming out. Go below the cut for the other trailers, and  link to the first episode of a  show that was pretty high on the recap list.

Heavenly Sword Dragon Sabre 2009

With this being the last in the Condor Trilogy that director Zhang Jizhong has yet to remake, anticipation has been high for this version of HSDS. Not really from me, because I’ve never really gotten into wuxia but after seeing the trailer  and the gorgeous cinematography that’s definitely changed. It’s shot so prettily! And then finally I will be able to shake off that feeling of shame at  being Chinese, and yet having no idea what the hell people are talking about when they discuss Jin Yong ’s body of work. And I may be the only one who thinks this, but Deng Chao looks so hot in it.

Part 1 (Chinese tv trailers are long…too long for youtube)

Part 2

Oh and idarklight says I will never shake off the shame of not knowing Jin Yong’s work by simply watching dramas. It’s not the same as reading the book. Better get to work on my wuxia literacy then.

Remembrance of Dreams Past

This is an epic, large scale series that stars Chen Kun and is Hua Yi financed. He  plays the son of a princess in the time of the last emperor, and will play his character from age 18 to 90 from the Republic of China to the 70s as he travels in the story from Taiwan to Beijing, to Shanghai and then finally to the South. I might watch part of this for Chen Kun but it seems a little too epic for me.

Meteor Shower’s MV “Let Me Sing a Song For You”

…and finally the one that people are more interested in, even though it’s the lowest budgeted of them all.  I really like Zhang Han’s expressions here, and loved the “mian ren” scene. Hopefully the acting doesn’t disappoint. It’s cute how everyone has their own love story here, and lol at all the testosterone-driven scenes.

P.S. Another anticipated show was Nonstop with BOBO and the Backdorm Boys and He Zhuoyan (she shows up toward the end of Part  1 of the Heavenly Sword Dragon Sabre trailer). Here’s the link to the first episode.

  1. idarklight Says:

    The meteor shower trailer impressed me. It’s 100x better than at all the photos we’ve gotten. The girls are adorable, the guys’ clothes don’t look creepy, Yu Haoming’s hair isn’t freaky, Wei Chen at 1:00 is lovex1000.

    I must say, though, he sounds the best in here, not that it’s hard.

    Trailer-wise, this filming/clothing/acting actually looks better than Always Smile!

  2. cfensi Says:

    Yeah, all three trailers are gorgeous, but while I was sure that HSDS and Remembrance of Dreams Past would have great cinematography, I didn’t expect it to be as nice as it was for Meteor Shower.

    Xiao Han (Murong’s sis) has such gorgeous eyes. I can’t wait for her subplot with Wei Chen. I wonder if it’s only Akira and Soujirou that get kiss scenes in this version.

    And well, most of the photos we got were fan-taken. And Hunan TV doesn’t have the nice photographers that Dragon TV has. All of their promo pictures, including those for Always Smile! suck. But it’s the final product that counts.

  3. idarklight Says:

    Well, Yu Haoming said he hasn’t had any kissing scenes in anything yet…so probably?

    but yes. the other two are also gorgeous, but they were expected, especially HSDS. Remembrance of Dreams Past has my favorite color tone, though. The right mix of brightness and details.

    Always Smile!’s cinematography was a huge disappointment compared to Dreams Link. Hunan seemed to be intentionally making Meteor Shower look bad, though.

  4. yelei Says:

    Omgosh! now im truly excited for Meteor Shower. Like idarklight said, the trailer/mv is 1000000000000x times better than the photos. I was quite worry about Yu Hao Ming’s hair, but OMG! he’s so HOT! The main actress is so cute<3 I think her acting will be better than Go Hye Sun. Honestly I never finished watching BOF. I only saw like 5 minute of episode 1, and I stopped. I'm so EXCITED! and chinese version of Nonstop….ohmygosh! im going crazy right now! P.S – i think the main male lead is quite handsome.

    Wow, Heavenly Sword Dragon Sabre was shot beautifully<3 Although the trailer was quite lengthy, I'm impressed!

    Remembrance of Dreams Past's trailer is darn clear.

    This summer is going to be wonderful<3!

  5. Yelei. Says:

    this is so weird.. i made a post but I think it was never sent out T-T

  6. Yelei. Says:

    Meteor Shower:
    1) Yu Hao Ming actually looks gorgeous!
    2) Main actress super cute<3
    3) main male lead is quite hot
    4) This could be the 1st idol drama in China (that's what i think).
    5) the song is wonderful.
    6) they don't look like college students, more like high school.

    Nonstop:
    - Hangeng is going to be a featured guest? Wow, Im excited because the photos Ive seen makes me excited. The guys look really hot 8D

    Heavenly Sword Dragon Sabre:
    the trailer is so dramatic (not in a bad way). I think I will actually watch this because An Xi Yuan is in it. The cinematography is surprisingly beautiful.

    Remembrance of Dreams Past:
    the video quality is excellent.. super clear *O*!

  7. Yelei. Says:

    I think I just spammed this entry. -_-

  8. cfensi Says:

    @yelei. Sorry, sometimes wordpress catches comments as spam even though they aren’t, and I don’t know why. It happens quite often actually. I just approved your comment. You didn’t spam.

    @idarklight

    Yeah, I’m wondering if Hunan purposely put out those really bad shots of the boys in the beginning just to get people talking. I mean someone at AF actually took the time to translate the article about “netizens say Chinese F4″ is ugly, so in a way …it kinda worked.

    Remembrance of Dreams Past has such nice furniture. It’s even better than An Xiang’s furniture. I need Chinese wooden furniture in my life but it costs too much. My relatives have a set of chairs that cost $1000 USD. Each. Ridiculous.

  9. A. Says:

    Hm, this new HSDS has really nice cinematography – very characteristic Zhang Jizhong style. I’ve noticed he likes to use a lot of the same “shaded” scenes – he really really likes the blue-tinted and the orange-tinted scenes. It’s showed up everywhere, in all of his Jin Yong works. Is this really his last one? I feel like maybe his other ventures of the not-so-popular works were not given so much hype about and just passed off quietly…

    And yes, the books should most definitely be read. They are classic – and quite suspenseful too, b/c Jin Yong is a good storyteller.

    Meteor Shower is like a pleasant surprise. I haven’t started Always Smile yet but I have its tudou playlist nicely bookmarked – will get to it some time soon. And the Chinese version of Nonstop! Its style, though, reminds me very much of the Korean version.

    By the way, completely random, because my dad brought it up the other day when we watched Painted Skin [he frequents Chinese forums too much for his own good] – did Chen Kun have like a child out of wedlock or something? Was there some sort of scandal?

  10. kale Says:

    omg, so excited for Meteor Shower or whatever it’s called now. Yay…muaaaaaah

    @A.
    See, I wasn’t the only one thinking about Chen Kun’s child. I think I mentioned this months ago in this forum. It’s true right?

  11. julie Says:

    wow $1000 chairs…
    Im really impressed by the trailers, especially meteor showers..
    Anyone know how many episodes MS is gonna have?
    And what time will it air? (I know august, but friday? saturday? 8pm?9pm?)

  12. choinkirox Says:

    omg can’t breath meteor shower looks AMAZING! &love the song <3 But i dont think it can beat the Korean version tho, but looks better the the original F4 version … CAN'T WAIT!!!

  13. Yelei. Says:

    wow.. $1000 a set… thats insane.

    wait, WHAT?! Chen Kun has a child?

  14. lux Says:

    wooooow, meteor shower looks amazing!!!! i cant wait to watch it!!! gosh the girls are just so pretty and the guys are looking mighty fine too. chinese ppl seem more telegenic than photogenic.

  15. bambybam Says:

    Do review the serials when they are out! Can’t wait! Love men from hundred years ago, they just aren’t the same now are they? Haahaa…

  16. bambybam Says:

    By the way, any one here knows if Wallace Huo’s 《变身契约》serial is out? Thanks!

  17. trish Says:

    wow!. thats all i can say now w/ the meteor shower’s trailer..
    im so excited now..bcoz with what i had saw with the trailer..
    zhang han and zheng shuang has a chemistry..
    the 3 other boys are cute. especially zhang han and yu hao ming.. i love them all… haha..and of coarse zheng shuang..she’s so pretty..
    i really hope that this would be another successful version of mg,hyd,bof..

  18. cfensi Says:

    @ A. and kale – I never heard this rumor. Did this come up while I was away? I don’t know. China has the largest number of netizens in the world and bc of that it’s easy to start rumors so I’m always skeptical. Chen Kun would be the last actor I expected to have secret kid or something though.

    @A. I really, really want to read the stories and I envy everyone whose grasp of the Chinese language is good enough to read them. There’s so much beauty in Chinese literature and it’s so frustrating because to get to that beauty seems almost impossible when it requires so much memorization and in depth understanding of the language. I’ll just have to keep at memorizing one by one those characters.

    @ julie It has 33 episodes. It’ll probably air an episode (or two?) per day.

    I feel like the really, really bad photoshoot of the Chinese F4 not only got people talking with their comparisons, but it also lowered expectations. Which is a lot better than releasing nice pictures then releasing a boring trailer close to the premiere.

    And yeah about the chairs. The ironic thing is, my relatives are workaholics (hence how they’re able to afford such expensive chairs) that they never have time to sit on them. They just pile clothes and junk on top of them.

    @ bambybam I don’t think it’s out yet. There’s not much news on it.

    @trish I really liked the fact that, despite the fact that I knew Wei Chen and Yu Haoming beforehand, the two that I was drawn to most in the trailer was Zhang Han and Zheng Shuang through their mannerisms, their expressions.

  19. idarklight Says:

    @julie
    Hunan airs its self-made dramas at 10:00pm.
    Chinese dramas air seven-days a week, except Super Girls airs on Fridays, so everyday except for Friday?

  20. lu0hh Says:

    i have hunan through kylin tv.
    it has super girls but not Always Smile that was supose to air huh??
    its wierd =[
    it has chou nu wu di though

  21. chinkirox Says:

    So I just finished watching BoBo’s “Non Stop” pretty cute <3 Some of the jokes are so lame that it's funny! And they have a "blond" that always says the wrong Chinese proverb so I'm sort of learning Chinese while I'm watching this. And Baoer+Baozi's character fits their image so well! AHHH!

  22. shoups Says:

    i like this song for H4

  23. idarklight Says:

    @shoups

    it’s the same song.

  24. mrpeng Says:

    @lu0hh

    i have kylintv as well, we used to have all the channels, including hunan tv, dragon tv, etc. but not anymore………… not even cctv4

  25. lu0hh Says:

    ohh how come. did you get the taiwan channels.
    hunan on tv doesnt give all the shows!

  26. shoups Says:

    @idarklight

    no it is different
    the song you uploaded is 为你唱首歌

    the song i like is 爱是一个人的事
    if you listen to them, they sound completely different

  27. idarklight Says:

    @shoups

    you’re right. That song isn’t for Meteor Shower, though. I can’t say I love it, though. My favorite song by Haoming is probably “Sinking in love”

    This is the song that I like and wish was in Meteor Shower:

  28. kale Says:

    @cfensi.
    Chen Kun baby’s rumor is kinda old, over a year ago. I watched a talk show and the host asked him about it (of course he denied it) but I can’t locate the vid on Youtube anymore. So, even if chinse netizens are huge but to have an old rumor still circulating tll now…maybe it’s true.

    anyway. it’s no biggy

    @idarklight
    I like that old haoming song and his other songs..i think meteor shower theme song is good for the drama but not somethin i’ll listen on my ipod.

  29. idarklight Says:

    @kale

    I didn’t like the Meteor Shower song. It wasn’t bad, but not something worthy. To be honest, I don’t really like any of Haoming’s songs that much. It’s not him, it’s the songs. The songs he are given are generally the soft old-school pop that simply aren’t anything special. This one included.

    I really hope that when he becomes famous, that’s not the type of songs he will continue to sing.

    ————————
    the girl who wrote this song wrote Why Me…why is this not half as catchy as Why Me?

  30. megan Says:

    Wow, I went hiking for two days and 25 more comments were added since =0
    Well my first impression of Meteor Shower was sort of like just another rather bland version of the Japanese and Korean ones. But that trailer/MV has totally made me change my mind. The boys look great and the girl too. Yu Haoming equals epic jizz. Ah~ I can’t type, I’m so excited~!

    The testosterone-driven scene are awesome! I’m glad they’re bringing in something new to the drama that the other versions didn’t have (I know that technically Meteor Shower isn’t another “version” of HYD, but I’m just calling it that because it’s easier). I’m already looking forward to the drag racing scene and the rock climbing one as well.

    @Wendy – I agree with the whole uniforms thing. Asia is meant to have pretty school uniforms, why aren’t any versions of HYD delivering?? Oh well, I suppose we’ll just have to accept it.

  31. idarklight Says:

    @megan
    Because China isn’t known for cool uniforms. Chinese uniforms are generally more utilitarian and economic than good-looking. You can’t really go to PE in miniskirts and suits. When I went to school in China, our uniforms were basically sweat pants, shirts and jackets (for winter).

  32. cfensi Says:

    @idarklight

    Actually some of the private schools in China have really cute uniforms…although you’re right public schools all have those sweatpants, though that’s only part of the uniform, and people tend to wear it more in winter. They have the whole, sailor moon thing going on too.

    I really don’t understand why the uniforms suck so badly. It’s not like Hunan doesn’t know good clothing. Ugly Wudi clothes look fine, as did Dream Links. And they have Guo Jingmin…so…???

    But @wendy…after staring at them for a few months, you do tend to get used to it.

  33. yelei Says:

    i have a question, do kids in China still wear that red tie around their neck? I remember when I attended kindergarten and elementary school, kids still had to wear it.

  34. idarklight Says:

    @yelei
    yes, they do.

  35. megan Says:

    @ idarklight & cfensi
    Ok I’m just slightly confused with this whole uniforms thing now ;p
    When I went to China a few years ago, the primary/elementary school kids had to where the red scarves, but I remember I saw some really nice uniforms on the highschoolers. Maybe it’s juts me…but in general, school uniforms in Asia make the uniforms we have to wear here in Australia look like potato sacks.

  36. lulu Says:

    uniforms in HK and Taiwan and private schools in Mainland China are reallllly nice. my friend goes to a private school in shanghai and she recently came to america. when i saw her uniform, i was so amased, because it looked la lot like….the uniform in jay chou’s movie Secret
    and also like the uniforms in Special A (S.A., japanese drama)
    as in, dark blazers with white lining, ties(guys)/bows(girls), pleated skirts, pants, and the black knee-high socks &c.
    not all are bad.

    as for the meteor garden, its makes me so mad when people all around keep saying they are so ugly. i have looked around sites like crunchyroll youtube and other asian forums and everyone seems to be hating it TT.TT

  37. a5555a Says:

    pls tell me what is the title of the song on the 1st vid(for meteor shower)…i really like the song..and if its no too much can you tell me where i can get the romanized lyrics of the song…

  38. megan Says:

    Does anyone know who is subbing Meteor Shower? I’d like to join and help sub…

  39. cfensi Says:

    You should pm Cfanboys or Cfanboys2. I think they are subbing.
