Cross-Profession Artists’ Burberry Photoshoot for Men’s Uno and HotSpot

May 15, 2009

From L-R linda, Peng Tan, Song Ning, Chun Xiao, and Zhang Junning

I have no idea if the title made sense to anyone? Basically Men’s Uno grabbed five artists that dabble in different areas of the entertainment field (singing, acting, modeling) and put them in Burberry clothing. The shoot caught my attention because it had both Peng Tan and Zhang Junning who are just so different from each other. The other guy is Song Ning who started out as a model and now falls into that category of late twenties  to early thirties actors who only have slight fame in China. He’s been in a few series and a few MVs, including one of Ding Wei’s back when she still sang (she composed this song as well…don’t you just love her?).

May 13, 2009

The second set of HQ stills were released on Monday for the other Dream of the Red Chamber adaptation, called Dai Yu Zhuan that idarklight mentioned was starting production right as The New Dream of the Red Chamber was finishing up its filming. Despite its lower budget, people have rallied around this version already, since the makeup and costumes adhere to canon, versus Li Shaohong’s version where everyone has opera hairstyles and pale makeup.

On  ‘Bai Fen Bai’ last week, host Show Luo introduced two of his company juniors who are debuting around the same time, but with two different appeals. Chang Yunjing is the winner of the first season of Taiwan’ s Super Idol. Blue Bird Flying Fish is a pop duo  made up of Sichuan boys (this is my 512 related reference in this post). They are all under Gold Typhoon, the powerhouse company that covers the mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong with artists from each region.

“Trail of the Panda” Films One of Sichuan’s Enduring Treasures

May 12, 2009

The only thing cuter than a kid is a panda.

By request, we’re posting on this film that was released last week, the second Disney-China coproduction, although definitely not the last, as the company eyes expansion into the Chinese market. The film was primarily shot at the famous Woolong Giant Panda Reserve, which you can’t purchase bus tickets to anymore from the larger Sichuan cities due to a lot of the road infrastructure being rebuilt. The scenery should emphasize the beauty of the western province. The fact that one of its stars, a panda named Mao Mao lost its life in the tragedy exactly one year ago, serves as a reminder of the tragedy. But mostly, I think it should instill in everyone a sense of hope and wanting to contribute to the rebuilding of the hardest-hit areas Sichuan like Woolong.

Chinese Athletes Sing For 5.12

May 12, 2009

A group of Chinese athletes got together to sing for the One Year remembrance of the devastating earthquake that occurred during 5.12. The singing is quite bad, but I suppose that makes it more admirable that these athletes would display their lack of vocal skills for Sichuan.

Watch the making of MV here and the actual MV here. The CD +VCD of the single will be sold for 12 yuan, all profits going to the devastated area. The MV was shown in a ceremony where it was screened on that huge LED screen from the Olympics.

Lu Chuan's the only one smiling because he's the only one that benefited from this movie.

Lu Chuan's the only one smiling because only he's the only one that benefited from this movie.

Lu Chuan’s highly publicized film Nanking!Nanking!, also known as The City of Life and Death in English, received huge successes at the box offices. In 10 days, box office sells reached 110million yuan, making Lu Chuan the fifth Chinese director to earn over 100 million yuan with a film. Despite huge commercial successes, the film received huge amounts of criticisms.

What Jane Will Be Singing on Oprah

May 11, 2009

I don’t feel like making a new post, but by now we know Jane sung Impressions of West Lake and Celebrate on Oprah.

According to Sina, some more fun facts:

1) Oprah’s crew chose her songs to sing; neither she nor her managers had a say in it.

2) She didn’t have much prep time, before the show, such as what would be asked because they wanted to keep it natural.

3) After she sang Loving You showing off her whistle register, everyone gave her a standing ovation, and Simon promised to keep in touch.

4) She went out to celebrate with Oprah’s dancers after the show.

5) There was something about her doing an English song in the future, but I’m not sure what that means, and I don’t want to get people’s hopes up. That is, if you want her to sing in English.

I mentioned that this indie duo from Taiwan (Cotton Candy or katncandix2) would be up against HIT-5 in the second season of Jie Jie Gao Sheng/Mix-box. They became a group in 2007, releasing an EP, and Small Flight is their first album. This is their first MV from this album:
