What do you mean rockers shouldn't wear pink caps?
Cui Jian, one of the founders of Chinese rock, whose exposition usually involves mercilously mocking modern pop stars and the practice of lip-synching and anything else ruining the quality of Chinese music, shows his softer side as he turns his attention to directing, and away from the world of music.
Last December, Zhongbo Media announced the filming of “Chengdu I love you,” which will have three segments one directed by Cui Jian, a film similar to “Paris, je t’aime” and “New York, I Love You.” Chendu is the capital of Sichuan province, which was devastated by the earthquake in May.
Cui Jian said, ” I believe Chengdu people are like the French of China. They’re romantic with a happy attitude. That type of attitude allows them to calmly face the problems they face. After the Sichuan earthquake, they quickly recovered from the pains and went back to rebuilding their home. Through this film, I hope people will better understand Chengdu, understand the lives and feelings of the Chengdu people.
“Like my music, I won’t try to add Chinese elements to it, but it’ll be something that anyone from China, Asia or the World can understand.”
“Chengdu is a city with stories, from the way people talk to the way they love. This city has a theatrical sided to it, like Sichuanese cuisine – red, enthusiastic, bold and spicy.”
“Movies and music both need real emotions put into it. Chinese movies have real emotions….”Chengdu, I love you” is a story that’ll touch all humans…it’s filled with sunshine, with enthusiasm, it’ll teach us how to say ‘I love you.’”
The other two segements will be directed by Hong Kong director Fruit Chan, and Korean director Hur Jinho

So be ahead of the game and show Chengdu some love, like Cui Jian. Ironically, this city is where the Sichuan Conservatory of Music is located, which has produced countless current young Chinese pop stars including He Jie, Wei Chen, Chris Lee, Top Combine’s Ma Xueyang, Tan Weiwei and Alan (who went to its affiliated high school before entering the PLA academy). I’m sure he’ll put that school in its place once he’s finished filming.

Chengdu is also the hometown of Ji Minjia, Jane Zhang, Zhang Liyin and Zhang Jie. Ji Jie’s also from Sichuan
It’s a good city for music (and people with the last name Zhang and first name Jie)

been there once, a very polluted city that is basically enveloped in smog. Its very pretty if you leave the city though and go visit the massive bamboo forests.
